but flash is sooo much better for a portable device.
Depends on what you're doing with it. I'm not going to be taking that big iPod with its nice glass screen anywhere high impact. So for me, I'd much rather an 80gb microdrive be stuffed in there.

I am still using a 1st gen ipod and it works fine. i swear they are worse than computers that fade in a year
Wow.

I only got 3 years out of my 2nd gen. It was a healthy combo of blank screen and miserable battery life that finally did it in. Now that I think about it, she might still work, but it would be damn near impossible to navigate w/o a screen.

see i love my ipod. i had the 4th gen. i loved it, whenever i used my friends who had the color screen 4th gen i hated it it was weird. my ipod was stolen when i was going to school in newark and i never saw it again. before school started last year i got the ipod video. things i hate on it are... you cant read the screen unless the backlight is on, battery lasts me 2 days max, old one used to last me over a week, its slower, freezes all the time, gives me a hard time when plugged into a pc.

i've had my 3rd gen ipod for 4-5 years now, no problems, battery's like 2 days, screen's good, and i cant stand the new click wheels, the 3rd was the best with the wheel and the 4 buttons across the top.

iphone price drop too. No more 4 gig iphone either.

Sucks if you got an iphone at the 600 dollar price, but that's what you gotta pay to be the first group to get it.

too bad "The Office" won't be available on iTunes anymore..or any NBC shows.
that's NBC's fault. they wanted to charge MORE per episode. steve jobs laid the law down. NBC bolted.

we'll see how they fare on amazon's new store...

actually it's not that bad, since i highly doubt after these fresh product announcements i'd be able to eBay my nokia 770, garden variety RAZR (1), and iPod Video 30 for $400+ as i did in july. :)

Since they stopped selling the 4g models, Apple employees got an even better deal on them.

$242 shipped for my 4g. Should be here by Monday. Score.

I had a 3rd Gen 20gb one for *years*. Battery kinda died eventually, but I have a 30gb Video for traveling, and I used the 3 in the office. Docked, plugged in, it ruled, those buttons were so much easier to use while it was docked.
Then the f***ing cleaning crew stole it one day. iPod, dock, charge cable, gone from my office. Soooo pissed.

Say what you want about the touch, I've been waiting for it for a long, long time. I fly all the time, and full screen wide screen is what I want. 16 gigs is not great, but if you sync it with different stuff every trip, it'll be fine. How many times can you watch the same movie/tv show/ video stream?

Wifi in my pocket for business meetings? hell yea!

I've looked at them all, and the next one that comes close is the Archos 605, but the web browser sucks, costs extra, and you need a stylus. it is also kind of bulky, and not as user friendly

While we are on the subject... My 4G pooped the bed battery wise so I went to ipodjuice.com and got a new battery that is 2x the capacity of a properly functioning stock one. If you need a new batt, check it out. 43$ shipped for the largest battery they make, plus the special tools you need to swap it out and color instructions. Worked like a champ in 10min.

Dude, WTF? The Touchs are out at most Apple stores, but not the freaking Apple Store in Reno. Nevada sucks!
I'd totally buy one tonight too.

The key to the deal is that they ship it with large color instructions, a special tool to actually get the iPod open w/o destroying it, as well as a REALLY tiny torx driver to release the mainboard and subsequently the battery. Also, as I said, I got a battery that last 2x as long as stock. All that for $30 less than what Apple charges for me to send it away and wait weeks to get a refurb back w/o my songs on it. Seems worth it to me.

Plus, to be truly truly honest, the iPod was a gift. I personally wish Apple would DIAF, so I don't want to support them any further.
