if anyone has the new Messenger, and has seen the animated wink things....

I am curious what file types these are and where they live on my computer. I would like to create my own...

suggestions?

They're almost certainly animated .gif files...

Check in C:\Program Files\ in whatever folder MSN messenger creates when it installs itself.

A Google search turned up thousands of sites offering free animated smilies... Unless you have a particular attachment to the default ones in MSN Messenger, you could start there.

MSN Winks: MSN 7 introduces "winks" which allow you to send kisses, hearts and all sorts of silly and funny animated cartoons to your contacts including funny animated smiley faces.

Seriously, though, smilie faces or not, it's all the same stuff. Several still frames put in sequence in a .gif to form an animation.

arrg. :nuts: I KNOW what an animated gif is. I know what flash is as well.

I wanted to know what the file type is (I doubt that winks are actually .gif or .swf files.) and where they live on my computer.

I googled "creating winks", "creating messenger winks", "messenger winks", etc....

When my windows exploded again i kept messenger basic, i think i like it that way.
