Hey guys so I am building my first MTB and I am trying to figure out what crank set and what Fork I want to go with and how to go about it.

So I picked up a Transition Trans Am (2011 Model)

Question #1
I've been doing some research trying to figure out fork to go with and having a little trouble. This year I plan on doing AM/XC mainly, however I would like to be able to use this fork next year when I start to do DH. Now originally I was going to go with a Fox Fork as I use to be a Fox Fanboy when I rode BMX, but after doing some reading their customer service has me a little worried. I have yet to find anyone say anything good about their customer service. Rock Shox on the other hand seems to have great customer service.

If I were to go with a Fox Shock, I am leaning toward the 36 FLOAT 160 FIT RLC. It seems to have great success with DH,FR,AM terrain. Around $900-1000

As for the Rock Shox, a lot of people seem to speak highly of the Pike only problem is they were not made for the 2011 season. However I still find plenty of places that carry the 2010 versions at very good prices. Around 400-500 (New)

What about the RockShox Revelation 426 Air U-Turn

Any other suggestions? Please no other brands, pretty much set on either one of these two so far... Just looking for some last minute advise.
Question #2
What I want from my Crank set:
  • Looking for something that will work well for All Mountain and XC.
  • I want to do a Single speed
  • Biggest thing for me is that I want to be able to take this Crank set next year and put it on a TCB Bottlerocket for more serious Downhill
  • Need to be able to put a bash guard on it

So what is recommended and do I decide on what gearing will work best for me and the riding I want to do.

If it helps with the suspension I weight 140 tops
