Well, I think I am going to try flats. I have been riding DH/FR/XC with clipless for 5 years now but I am getting a little worried when riding skinnies over 5 feet off the ground.

Ive decided on Syncros SS pedals but I need some shoes. I want something in a 3/4 top as I want ankle protection. Any ideas on shoes in a 3/4 top for flats. If I am making the jump, I am not looking back so I want a good shoe. Help

The soon-to-be-rereleased FiveTen Impacts are my favorite shoe ever. Not sure if they decided on the regular or 3/4 but they are the best.

Are you sure you need 3/4 shoes? You can get braces or protectors from Axo, 661, Fox and other companies so as not to restrict your choices.

intense was making a shoe with the sticky rubber sole. I know intense doesn't make them any more but someone else is bringing them back again. Someone else who knows a little more about it could help you there. I've always been riding flats and I use vans or airwalks with a gum rubber sole. they stick to the pedals and are cheaper than the intense type shoes.

I asked for them from the wife for X-Mas and have been emailing Marshall about all the Syncros pedals coming out. Im going with the SS. They will come in a CroMo, Mag, and Alloy. I have pics and weights of all them but the pics are to big to post.

I want a 3/4 top shoe because I sprained my ankle pretty bad a month ago and I want to try.... I said try... to prevent it from happening again.

I have oakley radars they rule. I use to use vans xlts but the sole wore out so fast and didn't stick all the time. The radars stick and stay put.

Thanks. Ill keep them in mind. Would they help at all in case of a rolled ankle (hows ankle support)? How are they holding up? Any other 3/4 tops?

the duallies don't really give much ankle support because there are no high laces. they mainly keep the crank arm from banging into yr ankle bone (and they do a really good job of this; the fabric on both inner ankle cups is completely worn off, but my ankles remain happy). i think this is more of an issue when using flats, as yr feet position moves around more.

you might wanna PM Lex about ankle support. i know he had a toasted ankle and used some sort of brace, but i'm not sure which one and how well it worked for him.

ya the dually's don't offer any ankle support - but they do offer ankle protection! Also I don't like high tops, especially the older AXO Duallies - they often collected small rocks and pebbles.

I prefer to use a low tops with either Ankle biters or 661 ankle brace.
