Hello all.

My name is John and I just wanted to make introductions. I just started riding Downhill. Some guy's from Harpers bike shop in Knoxville Tn got me into it. I must say, I love it. Ran my first race this weekend, came in 6th. We have a pretty good downhill course here at Windrock Mt. I currently ride a tricked out GT DHi and i'm liking that pretty good too. The guy I bought it from also hooked me up with a Troy Lee carbon helmet and a shuttle suit. I need it too since I go down on average 3-4 tims a run. Anyway's, just wanted to say hello.

Thanks.

There was only 10 people, but after only 3 weeks of riding time, I feel lucky to beat anyone. :)

I'm overly observant, or at least when something interests me. A couple years ago when I first joined there was a thread about who had made thier own stuff. I remember you posted a stem that looked kind of like the old easton mg70 only out of aluminum with a 4 bolt steerer tube clamp (or maybe not, this was over two years ago.) My dad's a machinist, I took a few machining classes for my degree so over the years I've really come to appreciate the time and talent it takes to machine stuff that acutally works and looking good is a big bonus, when somebody machines something I notice and remember. IIRC you don't really like to do alot of CNC stuff either, or maybe that was somebody else.

Now ask me about brian HCM #1 and I can't pull nearly as many useless facts out of my memory because I don't really find him interesting or talented. Yeah Hope, bla, bla, bla... :D

You have me confused with someone else, I've only been on RM for about 6 months, but I am a machinist. I was an aerospace toolmaker for 4 years and I currently have my own job shop in my garage on the side. I make lots of brake adapters and chain guides and other non-bike stuff. I do a lot of CNC and conventional though I don't have a CNC lathe (yet). I am also building my own bike that is a lot like zedro's in design theory. I'd be afraid of him sueing me if I didn't have 3 year old drawing of it.

guess I'd better say hi too, then :)
I always get links to this and that on RM from Espen, so I figured I'd might as well register and cause some trouble in the process.

(and it's a great opportunity to brag about my DHR)

eh, you must have mentioned something about being a machinist in one of your posts and I put the wrong face with your name because of it. Do you have pictures of cool bike related stuff have you made? Aerospace tool maker like you made forming dies for Boeing or aerospace tools like you worked in an Air Force machine shop. I did an internship at Edward's AFB, I was supposed to work in the shop just being a chip monkey but ended up playing solitare on a laptop for 3 months, it was the longest summer of my life and the least educational job I've ever had.

Toolmaker as in making tooling for a contractor for boeing and other aircraft companies. I did some die work but it was probably only about 5% of my total work.
I started out as a chip monkey and worked my way up. I hired on at just the right time and got promoted really fast once they figured out I was a fast learned.

I'll post some pics sometime. I have a rendering of the frame on my other computer. The frame itself is still pretty raw.

that's awesome, my dad started the same way, he didn't have any experience, he's been working at the same place forever now though, he was named the most valuable employee in 2002... he's actually in a really cool place in the company now because he gets to do alot of design work (read: cut metal until something works) as well as prototyping according to prints while the other tool makers in his department just build molds, apparently the engineers and management like him best so they give him the fun projects, well according to him anyway.

I'll have to dig out pictures of my bash ring, brake arch (first project 2002ish, I sold my bike right after I finished it and never ended up using it,) headset spacers, lower headset race setting tool and whatever else I can find that I've made.

High. My name is Rhino. I can't spell for sh!t *actually I rarely proofread so my poor typing really shines* and I tend to bust out in Sir-Mix-a-Lot song every now and again when I am in the mood (as witnessed above)

I generally don't attack people personally....not really my style....so take what may come across as being real mean as a friendly jab.

I also at times sign off as "Da Horn" just a multiple personality thing I am working through. :)

you bastard,........:p

I tend to only tell people to buy Rotec if they want a long bike, or zero chain stay growth. I often defend against naysayers of Rotecs but rarely do I tell people flat out get a Rotec. :D It is like you don't even know me....;)

What bike you rocking? I lost track somehere around the v-10/DHr drama....now I hear Brian convinced you to get a certain fork? Or was it shock? What is Mr A rocking this or next year?
