After twisting my arm, fellow monkey zod talked me into getting one of these sportworks instigators for my truck. All I can say is simplicity rules! I got rid of my custom truck bed mount, which basically took up the whole bed. Now when I'm not going to be riding, I can simply take the instigator out and throw it in the back seat- no tools.

You can get a whole mess of tie downs for $100 too.

It does look very nice though. I am looking at bulding the PVC (with some variations) in a week or 2.

Is there a way to ecure your rig? Looked like the tire just sat in there, what about thieft protection?

I just run a cable lock through the rack and frame and it's secure. my take on it is if someone wants it bad enough, they'll get it, locks or not...

Hahahah and you have an outdoor garage too. You L-town folk....
You forget that I'm aristocracy - I've got two outdoor garages!

BTW, the sherman rocks. Just installed an extra firm spring, will be test riding it tomorrow at PZ.

I have a real short bed in my truck. Is there anyway to mount a couple of those to a 2x6 and then mount it to the floor of the truck behind the cab? Any other pics so I can see how it mounts. I would like to buy 3-4 of them and mount them on a board so I can leave the tailgate down.

I looked into these too but could not justify the cost for them. It was $100 I believe for just one holder (most people are gonna want 2-4). I say fock that, that's $400 for a holder! The PVC idea looks cool if you could make it sturdy. Like......make it so the bike goes no where.

My problem is I have a tool box in the back of the truck that a bike doesn't sit stright up without the tailgate down. I have to have everything at angles in order to get it to sit right. Maybe a different kind of toolbox would help.

i, too, have a Toyota and am looking for something better than what i have now. my setup currently doesn't allow me to load a road bike up without screwing with the bars.

plus i'm debating between toolbox or cargo cover.

Mr T., your reflective tabs got returned to me 'cause i forgot to put a stamp on. they'll get to you this week.

That's cool Inbred - I appreciate you remembering it.

I actually put the Instigator to use today and it works very well. I was hauling the endless and it hardly moved around at all, much more stable than my previous setup. I will be hauling the morpine tomorrow so that will be the real test. I figue $100 is not too much to spend to haul around a $2000+ bike...

You could probably use simple pipe clamps to hold them to a board. I don't see any reason why you couldn't make the set up you are talking about.

THANKS... Do the levers you pinch with the tailgate come off? How many could you fit across the tailgate?

I picked up a freerider rack with the flipping hitch mount directly from Sportworks for a customer the other day. All construction is done in-house! You walk in the front door to a nice reception area. Go down the hall and open a door and BAM you're in a full fledged production area. Racks of steel, mills, it was really cool to see the operation in progress. Top notch stuff, I definitely recommend them if you can pony up the cash.

I don't know what kind of truck you have but I would say it is possible to put three in a full size with a little persuasion. I have a tacoma and there's no way to get three in there I don't think. My plans are to only have one anyways...

As Zoso said, Sportworks stuff is top notch. Their philosophy is to make everything possible in house with emphasis on quality. I've been a long time customer and have never been dissatisfied.

I remember a certain Mr. Tiles on a certain patio of a certain Phat Burrito saying: "After going to a Manitou repair clinic, I will never, ever own a Manitou."

Of course, you also said if you had the money for a good hardtail you would buy an Imperial - then you went off and got the Endless.

I like the Manitou/Endless combo, just calling you out in good fun. When you comin' down to Charlotte for an urban fix?
