Myself, Ben Wiggins (Biggins), Steve Kaufman (psycle-on) and his friend Randy (digger...) cut in a new section of trail at Sugar from the very top of the mountain that is for the most part EXPERT ONLY. We will clear out a sport alternate around the main drop in up top this Saturday with more help.
On the VERY positive side, we made one heck of a cool trail up top. It is wide, fast and rocky from start to finish. The main drop in is BURLY! And I do not say that lightly or to brag. It will be very hard to clean. From the exit of this drop, you romp high speed cross slope, up over and down some boulders, shoot back across and down the slope and through some more rocks, pop out onto a 40 foot high ledge and rip down a 50 foot long relatively flat boulder onto the slope 100 yards or so up from Donovans Dungeon.
The plan this coming Saturday will be to clear this section out and bank a turn into the drop off. This shouldn't take more than 2 hours and the final project will be to go straight across from the boulder and cut the final section of trail to lengthen Donovan's dungeon by 75-100 yards or rock infested, chocolaty goodness.
Those are the positives, but I must say there was a big negative. To say we were disappointed with turnout is an understatement. We needed 2 teams and we could have easily been done today and EVERYONE would have a new trail for next weekend! But now, instead of reap the fruits of our labor, I'll be forced to work that much more while others, no doubt, will try to ride it before me.
I ask that anyone and everyone who has this Saturday to themselves, to please email bizutch@hotmail.com or call me (828-713-2459/leave a message-I'll call you back) and offer your help. We can easily knock out the last part in 3 hours and have a full 30 seconds to full minute of added trail with your help.
Remember, Saturday is Oktoberfest at Sugar and they WILL BE RUNNING THE LIFTS! $20.00 for the full day! They will be serving all sorts of german food and beers right at the lodge. What better than to do a couple hours trailwork, ride, then chow down??? www.skisugar.com/oktoberfest
