Lol I actually need this, I have been so disconnected from that TBI I took off time for a long stint had to get chemistry and brain back in check...not worried about wadding when going for it, it hasn't happened yet.
I've proven to be durable as hell...
This was actually for me not my kid, I need to start and just remember how to get playfully and light on the bike like second nature again...speed and crushing courses and hauling ass isn't my weak spot , this has become what I lost...
So I can play around when I want find different stuff and progress. get back to where I am more comfortable on a bike than walking...

We are raising it to max and backing it up...the sago palm is the obstacle now...yeah the ramp is solid and landings well , huck to flat is part of our old urban riding...not too bad
I keep reading this just to see if everytime it brings back the taste of the impact and the feeling of elbows blowing ribs out . Yep!! It does ..lol

Yeah snow landings aren't bad I worked on tricks in the snow in Boise years ago ..had it's good and bad but was fun as hell..Jealous of your weather. Like JM, we are a bit snowed in. My transition landing would be a snow man. Ha. But am keen on trying it. Maybe tomorrow

Well, in our area things got a little moar serious in the last years.
Once we didn't have any bears anymore, then they started to repopulate brown bears. Result: Overpopulation and already some human fatalities and some wild stories from joggers, hikers etc.
Bears + humans + not enough space = not good

I spent 8 summers working in the Canadian rockies and the Yukon and saw quite a few grizzlies, black bears, etc. This guy was walking on the Dempster highway and didn't mind me passing by (in my car). I never met one hiking of biking, and I was out in the woods at least 2-3 times/week, oftentimes by myself. I was just talking quite a bit and making sounds to make sure they knew I was around.
Most lucky moment was when I woke up camping at a friend's place in the Southern Rockies and the neighbours came by to ask if I saw the police lights and projector last night. I said no, why ? A grizzly walked just by my tent to go look for food in his thrash can. Never heard anything.
WORST fright I had was in Grasslands national Park, where wild bison roam free. I parked the car and walked a few hundred meters to go look at a canyon. Taking pictures, I see a cloud of dust coming up the cliff like 100m away. There was a massive bison looking at me, and I was quite far from the car. I just started walking slowly and calmly towards the car, then after seeing that he was standing still, ran as fast as I could (most probably a stupid move) and got in the car. He didn't move, but I was scared as hell.

Wolves do actually they tracked a guy in graingeville Idaho and ended up tearing his dogs heads off there bodies...they tracked him back to his truck..made the papers and the pack was doing the same thing to a few other ranchers and hunters...
You can carry your bear spray and if it makes you feel like a real man cause your humane, then I am glad for you.

Here’s the deal, though, Bullcrew, usually what happens is that the hunter just armed with a gun often shoots themselves or others, as trying to get a bead on a charging bear is fucking HARD, and nearly impossible for people without close combat experience. Besides, Grizzlies have been known to take a half dozen shots, and STILL charge and kill.
Bear spray is simply much, MUCH more effective, this has been proven over, and over, and over again.
Wolf encounters here are very common (I have had at least five, two with entire packs), and they generally want nothing to do with us.
The fear of them is almost cartoonish. Yeah, your dog might be at risk, I don’t ever bring my dog into that kind of country on purpose. Almost all of the attacks like you describe are “I know a guy who heard that….” Type things.
One encounter I had I was ”escorted” by the pack down a drainage (Moose Creek, Victor) for about two miles back to my truck. They weren’t ‘tracking’ me, they knew right where I was, and if they had wanted to, they could have attacked at any time. But they didn’t, and I was pretty confident this was the case. Sure, it was a little terrifying, but they really did keep their distance, and just kept moving me out to the trailhead.
Check out some stats.
”In the lower 48, there have been 14 fatal wild wolf attacks ever recorded. One was rabid. In North America, there have been only 41 nonfatal wild wolf attacks ever recorded.”

Until the early '00 years that was. Some stupid a$$ politicians thought it would be a good idea to repopulate wolves and bears in an area where almost every square metre is used for tourism or agriculture. Yay government subsidies!
These critters fuck like rabbits if left alone. Hunting them is strictly forbidden, bearspray too(!).
They start loosing their "fear" against humans, and needless to say things are getting interesting.
Like written before, in the last three years we had encounters between joggers and hikers with severe injuries and also fatalities. Mind you, not in the middle of nowhere, but nearby their hometwons.
They roam through towns, destroy cars and search for food in the trash.

They try and shoot the head, what they don't realize is the angle of skull of a grizzly and the cartilage that covers it deflects a bullet it grazes off...

Almost took a contract in northern Alaska on the rim doing ultrasonics on pipeline years ago...they have towers with lights and shooters watching for bear and wolves to keep us safe since we are plugged in and can't hear what's going on..
When I logged most had a gun on em, we had 1 guy overseeing the spot log who had the hail Mary slugs in shotgun..guys like me, well hell we were in trees topping em and I had a chainsaw so I was already good to go..
Bears walk by and do bear things (they are cute as hell) most of the time...but unpredictable, they are a wild animal so always be prepared
John Bull hunted out all the big brown out of California here as well..literally they went on a spree like they were limitless..learned about it at the discovery center..was actually really informative and sad...
Come to Australia, Prado drivers who always drive like they are running late for choccy starfish bleaching session are the biggest issue for bike riders, the animals are okay.
Yeah, those are definitely different scenarios with different needs. It just seems like around here, a loaded gun is usually more of a liability than a benefit if you have (and know how to use) bear spray.
This is a fact though, people without guns never seem to accidentally shoot themselves, or shoot others.

Based on the research I've done, books on the subject and so on, you are hoping to shatter a collarbone/shoulder. That's what stops the charge head-on. That's why firearms are not bad in the open, with ample reaction time and why bear-spray is better in tight spaces and more un-expected attacks/rapidly moving targets. Pulling and accurately shooting, assuming you've got enough power behind the round to penetrate and do just that, becomes a lot less likely as time compresses. With two moose charges recently, I can attest to this. You go around a corner, there's a freaking bear or moose and it starts charging instantly. You got two decisions, pull and fight, or run like hell and whichever you choose, you better do it right away. There are plenty of cases of bears "stalking" people where over the course of hours or even days, the people are aware, armed, and eventually have to take it down. Other cases where they are putting themselves danger-close to bears, but again with enough lead-time and slight-lines do react. It's the unexpected shit that I carry bear spray for.
