So, I'm sure I will be mocked, but have any of you guys messed around much with SRAM Transmission yet? I think I clipped my RD yesterday, but my shifting remained totally fine throughout the remainder of the ride.

However, I got home and bled my rear brake, and so I removed my rear wheel.

Once I put my wheel back in, my shifting was all fahked ahp. I did the "yank forward" (ccw direction) trick posted on the SRAM website, but this seemed to create a situation similar to having inadequate clearance between the top jockey and the cassette (similiar to inadequate b-tension).

I've not changed anything other than remove the rear wheel... Seems finicky.

Yeah I've been running it over a year. I've smacked them into plenty of things and they never miss a beat. When you reinstall the rear wheel, you'll probably need to give the derailleur a shove forward until the little markers (where it clamps onto the frame) line up again.

I repeated the setup cog-adjustment position-torque down steps and everything is perfect again.

RTFM… go figure…

Not new bikes or new parts but I just made a huge upgrade to my ageing enjoyment of riding.
_20241004_201334.JPG

Went from an average of 5 energy drinks a day to quitting caffeine entirely cold turkey and subsequently lost all cravings for sugar. Resulting in a weight loss of 23lb over the last few weeks without even trying.

Got a bazillion percent more energy and motivation now too.
Withdrawal was definitely emotional experience.

Now treating myself to a wee platter of Haggis Pakora

I don't even hate mountainbiking anymore.

26" wheels are still my favourite tho

If haggis is a treat what has been your weight loss diet? Moldy cardboard and used diapers?
Ever even tasted Haggis bro? it's fucking lovely.

No diet. Just zero sugar cravings so just haven't been snacking. which makes a calorie deficit of over 4000kCal per day from my old eating habits. When younger I'd just naturally burn that off. Getting older sucks. But TBH how I've never had diabetes must be some sort of mirracle.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!
That's awesome man ..yeah it's amazing how it cuts ..it also reduces inflammation in joints...

23lbs is huge for knees, cardio and joints...

Here's a kicker ..even if you burn off calories and sugar ..it still causes issues maybe not fat but inflammation , sugar low, cravings etc...

It causes visceral fat "skinny fat" it's worse than the visible fat as it stores next to organs and blood stream....silent killer. Also increases chances of diabetes.
You feel better, faster, less aches, cool down better, overall more energy when it's out of your system...takes a moment but it's a damn good thing ..

Good for you Gary...

Cheers man.
That scale is a smart scale so measures visceral fat . Its showing a drop from 16 to 15 over the weight loss (no idea how accurate that is tho)

I have that exact scale it's actually pretty good I use mine for weight here and there it integrates with my Fenix 8 and my fitness pal....
Really cool scale ..

For visceral I do deca scans it's an x-ray of mass and bone density, visceral fat where you carry your weight etc .
My last 206lbs lean 7% bf but had a little more visceral than I wanted ...my kid who eats total shit sugar and worse than I do had 1 oz ..lol
I don't eat super healthy , I get asked what's my diet and it's simple.. whatever the hell I want to eat literally..
I am cutting sugar starting Monday I'm 6 weeks out from hyrox in Chicago and I need my cardio back and be ache free...so upping running 3-4 miles a day and 7-8 on sat and sun,, biking , spin class and hill sprints ..lifting and power...

It's 6 weeks then game time, Dec in Anaheim and Jan in Vegas...so after that if I don't make worlds with wife I'm backing off ..I think this is my last run for pro and high level competition.. I'm tired..

I use mine for actual mass and get around my running weight for events 230-235 my knees seem to hold and fast any heavier with mass and I drop my 5k time and mile time pretty bad ..knees and breathing.

If I remember correctly you used to get angry when people said 5 energy drinks a day was unhealthy.

Meh, I cut out sugar alcohol and caffeine for a month, nothing changed.

Sleep came good when I upped my sugar intake, that's enough science for me to know that sugar is good for you.

I have 3 sets of these hubs (oldest one dates from 2018) and they've been very reliable for me so far.
Good to hear. I've heard a lot of negative opinions about these from people who haven't run them, and positive opinions from folks who have...

I've never "broken" a hub of any kind. I'm sure this will serve me well... The sound is quite satisfying.

The next step for me would be a completely silent hub, but those are heavy, and $$$. One day...

angry?

Er... no mate.

Of course they're not healthy. I've never said otherwise.
Simply that caffeine hits differently for me and with my tolerance for it 5 a day hasn't ever really been a big deal.
For example. Energy drinks have put me to sleep thousands of times

I did often point out the irony of Coffee addicts pouring scorn on others caffeine intake via energy drinks.

They are connoisseurs, they are not addicted, they drink coffee because they like the taste and the health benefits.

Sure they'd shelve a No-Doz if they couldn't get a barista made coffee, but no they aren't addicted and don't get angry if you say they are angry because they haven't had a coffee.

I'd like to see Sam Hill with a Maxwell House sponsorship.

I'm guessing you don't have ADHD.
or you replaced them with something else that gave you a similar hit
I ticked all the boxes but just have the symptoms because my sleep mostly sucks, got a Dex and Ritalin script a few years back but it was just to help me function when my sleep was shit.

Nah, didn't replace them, no juice, no bananas and no high GI foods, went all in. I do it every now and again just so I can tell people that want to give unsolicited advice on sleep/life etc that I have tried it.
Used to go for 100+km rides and not be able to get to sleep that night, it sucks, muscles just go to shit coz the cramps kick in from lack of sleep.

Can you drop the ohlins internals straight into a zeb chassis? Sick and tired of my rxf38 eating stanchions no matter how often I change the oil in em.
Too caps yes, the thread pitch is same they go 4.75 full turns so full strength engagement.

Length is the issue I can see, I'll measure a damper rod assembly today..only issue I can see is if it's a bit short it would get slammed on top out...

I'll grab a measurement today and see.

Hmmm, yeah they say they make their own hubs then say the bodies are imported.
Maybe the rims are the same.
Usual wheel builder fluff-
"Engineer owned, with a mission to create wheels that push your cycling performance, with the best hub and rim designs - paired with artisan hand-lacing techniques only attainable through custom master wheel-builders."

Why do people that build wheels have to make such a big deal about it? I bet every 'artisan' wheel builder roasts their own coffee and brews their own XPA.

It puts the spokes in the holes.
THIS! I always caught so much flak when I worked in shops when I said I didn't think wheel building was that big of a deal. Do a little math, put spokes in holes, true it up. Thats it. I've had this same conversation with some of our wheel engineers and they had a good chuckle on it.

We don't. We just get on with it. In all honesty it's a dull AF job. Often made a million times moar awkward by cunt designers with shite new ideas. Whoever they have lacing and building their wheels are basically a production line with the same shit to do all day every day.
You certainly wouldn't be skipping home to tell everyone all about how nicely you threaded spokes through holes or tensioned them

I bet every 'artisan' wheel builder roasts their own coffee and brews their own XPA.
'Artisan' sounds pretentious AF but all it really means is a skilled worker who makes things by hand.
don't ALL coffee wankers roast their own beans?

Roasted coffee is a hoax...it's a fake..they buy Folgers and tumble it in a cement mixer that looks cool..makes whiirrrrrr noises and you still get breakfast blend..(kidding I'm from Seattle, I know they make an art of it)...

Cheap shitty gas station coffee is the best
..always vulgar, usually cold or old and burnt tasting but will wake your ass up ..still tastes like shit with lots of creamer so just drink it black...

That's how I feel about shitty construction trailer / warehouse coffee... nothing you're going to add to it will make it taste good, so just drink it black to get the caffeine while also discouraging yourself from drinking more of it.

Have heard tons of cyclists say pretty much exactly what you just have. The one thing in common you all have is you're not doing it for a living

NORCAL is the hizzle
Back when I was a wrench (80's and 90's) it seemed like it was still sort of a big deal to be able to build wheels. There was still some mystical aspect to it, at least to some people, and not every mechanic could do it properly. Same with ground-up custom builds (which often required wheel builds). I took full advantage by spending lots of time doing that stuff, and always preferred to it to other more mundane stuff.
