i know you want purple hopes, but my suggestion is to grab a purple onyx. they aren't light, but zomg the quiet when you're going fast is amazing. And it's relatively instant engagement, which is amazeballs. and I do feel like it coasts pretty swell, but it's hard to directly compare to anything.

Hmmm true. I'm not opposed to the noise and my previous set of Hope's went forever; still going in fact. I'm also buying online, where do I even buy Onyx stuff? My options are pretty much either CRC or Jenson (without getting hosed).

The biggest question is, 142 or 148boost hub? The frame came with boost dropouts, so if I'm building a new wheel, might as well, right? Everything seems to be swinging that way...

if you're buying new, then probably boost

I got mine direct. They weren't cheap (retail for virtually any hub). Hopes are definitely cheap and very robust, I'll give you that.

boost hub and be done with it , just need to double check if the chainline is boost that will affect the sprocket . My Django is boost and I had to get a new spider/sprocket

Some frames, even if being boost, can fit non boost crankset. I have a non boost SLX crankset on my Django which works up to 34 teeth ring. It's tight but it works.
Empty beer is a good place to check these kind of compatibilities!

Empty is a good place to check these kind of compatibilities!

Your frame carbon ? mine is alloy and the derailleur cable is one of the reasons for needing the boost crank offset. Trust me I tried both versions.

Seriously considering a DHX2 for the Altitude.
Anyone heard any rumors on availability of a 210x55mm?
I called Fox and asked about it ~a month ago after I found the size listed on a parts sheet on their site. No current plans to make them available aftermarket. I wound up getting a DB inline coil for my Altitude, waiting for my link warranty to process before swapping it on.

Yes. I have like 1mm clearance with the 34t chainring and the linkage fully extended, it increases when the linkage compresses. I tied up the derailleur cable at both places (I.e. drilled holes in the chainstay between where the cable comes out of the chainstay and the bearing location) and tucked the cable under the chainstay as much as I could. I can get you a picture if my description is not good enough.

Don't the carbon and alloy frames share the same stays since mine are made of alloy?

Looks like they are the same stays , I had about the same clearance and just switched to the recommend offset . I also wanted more clearance , some of the stuff I ride is pretty raw . You are always picking up twigs , shrubs and the likes ,throw pine cones in as well LOL . Had one jam between my fork crown and front tire , sure stops you quick LOL

Good ole pinecones. I had one get stuck in my tire and somehow make it through the mud fender. That was an interesting sound... The thing shot out the other side too.

Yup, years ago (fully rigid) I picked up one of the big ones, went in between my wheel and fork, small end first and wedged in good. Things were shot out that day as well, but in my case, it was NOT the pinecone...:busted:

The fun part was picking the little bits out of the cantilever brakes, :doh:- they wedge in between the spring and arm almost like they were made to. :banghead:

I forget, did you have the same ride 9 problem I had, where the carbon wasn't laid right, and wouldn't go into some positions?
Not sure if it's the same problem or not. Mine won't go into the uppermost positions (3,6,9). Rocky asked for serial numbers off the swingarm and front triangle and said they'd warranty it. Not sure what "it" is at this point though. Shop guy tried swapping the link with one off a Pipeline and it still wouldn't clear, so it may be a frame alignment issue.

I have Hope hubs. For the price you cannot beat them. But my bikes BB is high enough I peddle more. When I ride my buddies Warden with Onyx Hubs ratcheting over and up rocks isn't a curse filled experience I know my Hope hubs would be, quiet costing is nice. But not having the clank and feel is great when constant engaging them is awesome. Definitely will be on the next bike.

Post: Transfer 150mm w/Wolftooth lever
Wheels: I9 305
Brakes: Saint
Cranks: XTR w/XT bb
Derailleur: XT
Shifter: SLX, switching to XT at some point
Pedals: RF Atlas
Seat: WTB Volt
Bars: Renthal alloy cut to 780mm
Stem: Renthal Apex 50mm
Grips: Renthal super tacky
Chain ring: Renthal narrow wide 30t
Guide: Wolfooth Gnarwolf, clearance issues really limit options here
Headset: Cane Creek 110

Bike weighs 30.5lbs with nothing in the SWAT compartment. No carbon parts on the bike, unless you count the cranks, i believe those have a bit on the inside of the arms. Probably ~32 with tube and pump in there.
