Big problems... :(

Somebody wanted to buy my square-taper BB and I wanted to verify that the BB was actually in mint condition...so I decided to remove it from my FSR to take a closer look at it before deciding on a price...etc.

The &?%$# non-driveside crankarm was suck on the spindle and my crankpuller completely stripped the crankarm as I tried to remove it.

POS Specialized OEM cranks with their cheapo soft material!!! :angry:

So basically I have 2 choices: Keep riding and then hacksaw the BB spindle when the BB will be dead...or hacksaw the BB spindle right now and put on my new MiddleBurn crankset.

Any other ideas?

What should I do...and more important: How could this be avoided?
1) I did put grease on the spindle before putting the crankarm on (in order to avoid seizing).
2) I do know how to properly use a crank-puller. Duh!

Was it 100% due to the poor quality of the crankset material or did I screw up somewhere?

Don't hacksaw the spindle, unless you have some need to upgrade to something "cooler".

Just cut the head of the crank arm with a cutting blade on a dremel: slice straight in on the end opposite the arm itself, toward the spindle, then insert a slot screwdriver, spread the gap and pop the wrecked crank arm off. :monkey:

Ride the bike with the crankbolt removed preferably up a hill and the crank might loosen and fall off.

Yeah!
Now I've got a couple options that would probably save my BB. I even heard there is some kind of special tool for this job. From the description, it seems to be nothing more than a crowbar, but it's supposed to be designed to remove the stuck crank arms. My lbs should have one...

Thanks!
