...anyone use a Nextel?

We need new cell phones, and they make a few models that might actually survive being owned by me.

What do you pay and how's the phone? I haven't used a Nextel in about 5 years.

We have Cingular right now (actually it's still AT&T wireless from before the take over) The reception sucks dog balls.

I'd ask people local to you. When I lived in Rhode Island Cingular was the best, got to California and no call would last longer than 10 min before being dropped. Asked around and everyone told me Verizon was best out here.

Been with them for 3+ years w/out an issue.

Nextel in the Bay Area, California for that matter sucks. The service is really bad.
That's what I remember. We used them for special event production, and half the time people on the two-way sounded like alien transmissions.

I was hoping they got better, because the Motorola mil-spec phones
are kick ass. You can drop kick one in the rain and they still work.

Any of the other cell phone companies have rugged phones?

The 2-way is really a cool feature, but trying to get a hold of someone that has Nextel can sometime be impossible. You get..........Please hold while the Nextel subscriber you're trying to reach is located.

That bugs the sh*t out of me. But yes those Motorola's are bullet proof.

DA BEARS.
Pro's- two way paging, more useful plans not the cheapest but most bang for your buck, tough phones, good service when it works, and pretty good customer service.
Con's- the two way can make it hard to recieve phone calls and really poor service in some areas.
I had nextel for seven years and really liked having service with them. I recently changed to Sprint because I had NO service at my new job. Im REALLY happy with my Sprint but in the near future Sprints and Nextels will be on the same network. The two way is extremely useful when co-workers and friends/family aslo have Nextel. Customer service is a bonus- after moving to Flagstaff I recieved no service but after a couple complaints a tech came out and solved my problem. If locals have luck with coverage in the area id say go for it. If you dont like it you can switch to sprint with no cancelation fee.

Motorola phones in general seem to be the most durable (except for razr's and slvr's). I haven't had issues with my c209.

I'd say get a Nextel phone if you can get one that doesn't BEEP'P in my damn ear all the time...and one where I don't have to listen to your whole stupid conversation while I'm browsing for a movie to rent. Oh, and especially don't talk back and forth BEEP'P "yea, honey, i'm over here by housewares"..BEEP'P "ok, i'm over in automotive.." BEEP'P "ok, i'll just meet you over by the fitting rooms.." BEEP'P  :busted: :bonk: :disgust: :ban:

You can play the best practical jokes with the 2-way. I was meeting a friend in St. Louis and while he was getting off the plane we were talking via the 2-way. I started talking quietly so he would crank up the volume on his phone. Once I was confident he had it up as high as possible I shouted something like "I've got two goats and 60 year old hooker waiting for you, condoms should be good enough just make sure none of your sores are oozing"

That whole weekend was a riot. Hotel bar closed early on us. After drinking our in room beer reserves we broke into the hotel kitchen and made sandwiches and heated up some apple pie.

Edit: this night was the first time I introduced the idea of eating babies to people outside of RM and would you believe it a guy who rolls joints made from pages torn out of bibles became seriously offended. I tried to open up the idea of selling baby shaped tofu loafs to satisfy people who desired infant meals but he didn't buy it. Some people.

Ok, most review I've read are pretty good, any one here use the Sony Ericsson W810i? (Walkman phone/cam/mp3 player/browser/leaf blower/etc)

I'm looking at Verizon or Cingular now. I've read a ton about Nextel in my area and it sounds like the LAST service I'd want.
