So who gets the NFL Network and how is it offered? Comcast sucks. Last year the NFL Network was included as part of basic digital cable. Well Comcast decided to take that away and now offer it as part of a "sports package" that costs an additional $7.95/month. Apparently that started about two weeks ago...just in time for football season. What kind of crap is that? Friggin Comcast assholes.

AT&T is starting to offer it's cable service in my area. We are DONE with Comcast when AT&T is available to us.

I called Comcast just before the HoF game and asked why I wasn't getting it.

Got some bullsh!t excuse that I ignored, but the guy said it's $6.95 month for the sports package and that I can have it for six months for free.

Call them back, tell them you know about the offer and get it.

Then after the season, cancel it as well as explore other options.

I'm going to revamp my entire communications package (cable, phone, internet) after the season.

While it is offensive, also consider that we're getting like a 1000 fvcking channels. Come on, isn't that cool?! Even if 950 of them suck donkey balls.

Hopefully, Versus will be in HD for next year's TdF.

I'm sending them a letter to express my displeasure. That AT&T thing I mentioned includes cable, phone and internet.

I really only watch sports and movies on TV, so I can do without most of the 1000 channels we get. The On Demand stuff rules though, as does DVR.

I didn't have cable until I could get it since my only option was Comcast (Direct tv and dish won't work due to trees in my backyard)

I've got to jump in and recommend DirecTV as well. I've had it for about 2 years now, and I'll never go back to cable. I used to know people who had it back in the day, and they had problems with reception during bad weather, but I think the new technology has eliminated that. I can count on one hand the number of times I've had my signal interrupted over the past 2 years due to weather, and I live out in the boonies in Maine.

Anyway . . . . something to think about if you're considering making a switch.

Watchin' you. Writing it all down.
From the NFL website

Why is Time Warner refusing to carry NFL Network?
Time Warner would like you to think we are asking too much money for our channel. The truth is, of the five largest companies that sell TV in this country, four carry NFL Network and they all carry us as a broadly distributed channel. Time Warner is the only holdout. Why? Please ask them. Time Warner is insisting we be carried as an extra charge Sports Tier package which will cost you more money. We think your cable bill is enough and you should not have to pay any more to get NFL Network. No other operator charges extra for NFL Network, nor should Time Warner. NFL Network has been working hard for the past three years to get local cable companies to carry NFL Network. If Comcast, the largest cable company in the country, and DIRECTV and Dish Network, the largest satellite providers can all carry us, why not Time Warner?
Apparently they aren't that up to date with Comcast's actions.

We get it with our Dish package
Before we moved, we had cable, and I can't remember if it was included or not. On cable, Versus was included though and to get it on Dish we pretty much have to get a million channels for it.
Oh well, if I want to watch a bunch of drugged up skinny dudes, I will watch a documentary on Meth heads.
The only other thing I miss about cable was the On Demand.
It had all HBO shows on there to watch at any time plus alot of movies.
DVR works the same on both though.

Not to get off topic, but I have terrible reception. Anything more than a "gentle rain" interrupts service. Prices go up every few months just like it did when I was on cable. If I want to upgrade to HD, I have to buy a whole new dish and pay to have it installed, plus I pay extra for each TV. And to top all that off, I get no major networks (ABC, NBC, Fox, etc.).

I'd go back to cable in a heartbeat if it was available where I live.

Boy, my experience couldn't be any different. Really great reception (depsite there being tons of tall trees that would seem to block the signal); I get all of the networks - including local channels - in HD; got upgraded to the HD package for $100, and that includes an HD DVR. I think I pay about $100 per month, but that includes every channel they offer, including all the premium channels, sports packages, etc. Hell, I liked the service so much I plunked down for the NFL package and the NHL package. Kind of weird since I only watch an hour or so of TV on an average day, but it's nice to have so many choices - especially considering I can record anything with the DVR and watch it at my leisure.

Anyway . . . off the soap box for now. :)

John P, does that DirecTV football package include all the games?
Usually, they carry every game except the ones that are already being broadcast on your local stations (which you get in most areas anyway) and the Monday night and Sunday night games (which you get on ESPN and NBC). So yeah, pretty much every game every week. If you pay for the 'SuperFan' package, you get almost all the games in HD, plus a couple of other cool channels - one that is live updates from every game being played (they litterally switch from game to game to game as one gets more interesting than the others), and another that splits the screen into 4 different smaller screens and simulcasts 4 games at the same time. You can also set up your receiver for your fantasy team, so when any of your players score, catch a pass, break a big run, etc. a message comes on the bottom of the screen and updates you.

Basically, it's an NFL fan's wet dream. :)

Check it all out here:

My dad has the Sunday Ticket. When the Panthers are away, I am over there. Our favorite channel is the Red Zone channel, or maybe its the game got more interesting channel.

I was going to get Direct TV but between homeowner's crap and trees I'm pretty much SOL to get satellite. So Time Warner owns me.

Cox Communications carries NFL Network, and it isn't part of a special sports package or any other bs. Yep, I'm very happy with how our cable service is holding up. Sux0rz to be you guys.

We get great reception w/ Direct TV, I don't think it's ever gone out. Last winter we had 82 mph winds coming in off the sound that snapped the 4x4 posts on our fence - TV reception was fine with the dish on the windy side of the house

I'm not familiar with Cox's radio holdings, but I do know that Clear Channel has it's radio hand in most markets in the country. Knowing that, I'd say CC. Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised based on CC's reputation in the industry.

Just to derail this thread a little further, check out this pic of Lions rookie freak of nature Calvin Johnson (6'5"; 239 lbs; 4.3 40; insane hands). FYI, the guy hanging off his back is 5'11" and 200 lbs. Think CJ might have a good season?

It's detroit..... how good could it be?
I didn't say their team would be good, just CJ. Considering they've got a.) Mike Martz running their offense, who never met a pass play he didn't like, b.) The NFC's leader in receptions (Furrey) lining up on one side, c.) The NFC's leader in receiving yardage (R. Williams) lining up on the other side, and d.) they're always playing from behind due to their sieve-like defense, I've got to imagine CJ won't have too big of a problem putting up gawdy numbers (at least for a rookie WR).

I have Fios for Phone and Internet , The TV option isn't available in our area because our toen Signed a 99 year contract with comcast to be the sole supplier of Cable TV to the town! Who the f*** signs a 99 year exclusivity contract!
That sucks. I really like it, there are some minor problems that are not a huge distraction, like slow responce when scrolling thru the guide once in awhile around 6:30 in the morning (I'm guessing it's downloading) and audio level differences between channels (which I see on most tv providers). but other then that it rocks.

I lot of experts have them on the bubble for a wild card spot.

I'm predicting for NFC playoffs:
Bears
Saints
Philly
Seahawks
Dallas
49ers

BUBBLE
Lions
Rams

Considering they've got ...
Excellent analysis. He'll contend for the most productive #3 WR in the league this year.

LMAO. Matt Millen has got to be the most worthless GM in the history of professional sports.
Any sport or just football? Certainly football, but I'd put Isiah Thomas up there too.

Find a cool local sports bar and get out of the house. Of course you have to put pants on to do that, but the social interaction can be good for you, or at least that's what my doctor said.

After working for the last 6 months for a major OnDemand content provider, I learned a lot about how piss poor the whole cable industry is. Sad, but true that Comcast is slowly taking over the world. Time Warner is so far behind the curve, they will be dead in another year or so.

OnDemand is cool. What cracks me up is that at least 75% of the content purchased through OnDemand is porn, yet NOBODY like to admit it.

who the fvck PURCHASES porn?
Apparently 75% of the people buying OnDemand crap.

Here is an interesting factoid:
The average viewing time for a PURCHASED OnDemand item is 7 minutes. The average runtime for a purchasable OnDemand item is 80 minutes.

Who pays for a "movie" to watch 7 minutes?

You should see the logs I had to parse. Paying for porn is funny to me.
