The USPS is profitable if they go back to not having to fully fund retirement for all employees at the time of hire.

And for profit ambulance services are already very much a thing. I was broke for about a year after getting thrown in one.

It will help them to change their retirement program no doubt.

What you had no insurance??

It was my understanding that USPS revenue goes into a general fund, which is one of the reasons they can't ever get on the positive side, because they are simply appropriate money. There is no way in hell it's profitable up here, it's subsidized to hell and they pay airlines to move the freight. It costs way more to move a package outside of Anchorage than the actual postage rate, so the USPS subsidizes that cost and pays the airlines to do so.

Any national postage service is like that though, the cheap city routes subsidize the people out in the sticks living with the moose :p

This. What the fuck is so hard about shopping around for ambulance service, hospital service, etc? People need to do their due-diligence when they have a life-threatening medical emergency.
Yup, totally agree.
Next time I'm unconscious or maybe bleeding out, I will make sure I send an astral projection out to do some comparison shopping. :neo:

What sort of socialist utopia do *you* live in?!? :disgust:
I rag-dolled myself on a ski hill that offered ambulance service gratis. The hospital gave me an $8000 MRI ride and discharged me without performing basic first aid. I spent the next two days pulling bits of wood out of an exploded lip.

That $300 season pass turned out to be a good deal.

I don't recall being asked who I wanted to respond, probably because the city has a sole provider contract, but AMR billed my insurance over 1000 dollars to transport my broken ass (Literally!) to Penrose St. Francis from where I got hit, a distance of approx 9 miles. I can pretty much guarantee not a single EMT in the ambulance was making more than 15 an hour. AMR is a mutli-billion dollar company, the EMT's who saved my life earn starvation wages. That's fucked up.

Yeah? Well the bigwigs at AMR probably have REALLY big 2nd-home mortgages to pay for in Aspen. Those mortgages don't just pay themselves, you know... :disgust1:
Only 2nd home?
Oh god those poor bastards!
Vulture capitalism is clearly something they are "teh suxors" at..... Maybe they should take up socialism to get a decent property portfolio?

It's not the general fund it's specifically to cover retirement for their employees. They were profitable as hell before that bill in 2006 mandated that they do this. That's why they sponsored that douchebag doper from texas around the turn of the century to go pedal a bike around france all summer. No other gov't agency does this, neither do private companies. They're neither. They were deliberately crippled just like the gov't did to amtrak years ago. So that now they can point and go "seeeee govt bad, make money go here instead"

Remember it used to be usps.gov, not it's usps.com? Same bill. Same stacked system.

Alaska wouldn't exist without the USPS. They used to have infrastructure when that state was getting built out. Now they're forced to walk around with their dick cut off by congress so that congress can go 'why you bleedin bro?'
