ahahahahahahahahaha

A British woman planning to start a new life with her husband in New Zealand has been banned from entering the country - because she is too fat.

Rowan Trezise, 33, has been left behind in England while her husband Richie, 35, has already made the move down under leaving her desperately trying to lose weight.

When the couple first tried to gain entry to the country they were told that they were both overweight and were a potential burden on the health care system.

Obviously it was his plan to dump the wife and trade-up while getting thin.

It may not be his fault, I notice when most of my friends get married, the wife plumps the guys up or makes them go bald so they are unmarketable:) Part the sisterhood master plan.

As with many other posts today, this thread is very interesting.

Based on photos of the bride, NZ can also apply the "neck rule" to this case: no neck, no visa.

Before you emigrate to NZ, you have to take a prescribed medical.
If you turn out to have a condition that costs the system a lot of cash, and you have no redeeming features (normally a qualification or skill) NZ will say no thank you.

Maori were born here so get to kill themselves on the NZ$.

May I also point out the type of people the Daily mail report on are exactly the sort of people we want to keep the hell out of NZ.

Front Range, dude...
It makes sense, you dont want someone rolling in just to suck off the hind teat of the system. But seriously, I could hear the rest of the world scream if it was done by the US.

Are you sure you don't? Nearly every country I've ever looked into moving to does it.

one anecdote doesn't prove anything other than that her doctor did not think it was urgent. and the facts presented in the case are insufficient for us to make the decision regardless of your (lack of) training.

canada has wait times for non-urgent MRI and CT, yes. in ontario this was up to 7 months. if it's URGENT it will get done immediately.

if this is the price to pay for a just and universal health care system then so be it. the world, and we individually cannot afford to pay $95,000 per incident as the lady in the article did by making her own end-run to mayo scottsdale.

Towing the party line.
Don't most Canadians come to the USA for treatment due do waiting 6 months for a CAT-SCAN?
No. I got a CT scan in 2 week for a non-urgent matter. If you need an urgent/emergency one done, it happens within minutes.

Please stop reading nonsense and then generalizing. Freerepublic is not a creditable news source.

Also, healthcare in Canada is a provincial matter, not federal.

Hey Toshi, FYI They're just finishing building a brand new huge hospital in central Wellington.
cool. the awesome thing about teleradiology would be that, once set up, i would probably be reading for US hospitals no matter where at... (for financial and legal liability reasons)
