Dear USA Basketball,

I invented a TEAM sport, next time remember that before you put 12 primadonna's together and call them a team.

Good. Anyone see the game against PR? A good D1 team could've beat us then. I'm all for the "go US" mentality in everythingbut basketball. They just don't look like they care. Hey, I don't care how many tattoos or pieces of extra clothing (armband, headband, elbow wrap) you wear, you still gotta put the ball in the basket, not try 6 shots and not make of them. I hope they realize that playing together and sharing (that thing we all learned in elementary school) is more important than who has a breakaway 360 behind-the-back dunk. As bad as it sounds, I hope we don't get a medal. There's more than 3 teams that deserve it more than us, in basketball.

it's not the teams fault, i actually have alot of respect for the guys who went. Most of them were replacements for whiny afraid bitches like Shaq, Kobe, Tracy McGrady, Ray Allen and on and on who punked out. Anyone who knows anything about basketball knows U.S. would have won gold with the original lineup, but that victory would not have been anything but expected. I would hope in the future the U.S. ask 5 All-Star's that would commit then fill the roster with team role players that are a better fit for the international game.
This team was full of one on one scorers, they lacked a true point guard, they had no outside shooting specialists, and i don't think beside the Dallas Mavericks you could come up with a team with a such terrible defense. i think it's a testament to this team actually trying that they're in position for a bronze.

I would think, from watching basketball, if the players actually wanted a win and worked for it, even the third rate players in the states could win in the olympics. (and no I am not giving anyone lse in the world credit. Even if each team had 2 players who MIGHT be able to compete in the nba it still wouldn't be a contest if the usa actually tried) So yes the first lineup wussed out, but the second string still should have dominated if they had played. I watched one game and was disgusted by the lack of 'team'...

I think one thing everybody overlooks is the fact that the international teams don't suck. Sure we have more talent and should win but everybody thinks these guys aren't any good, which is far from the truth. I think if we could have got KG, Shaq, Ray Allen and Allen Houston on the team we would look like the dream team of old.

I think the other teams are good...but still don't compare. Sorry you would be hard pressed to convince me otherwise. Your team choked bad and should have won with even the third string. The team had no heart and tonnes of talent.

Basketball sucks and blows at the same time.
Thats why I like it. :D

The US basketball team were the only people in the entire Olympic Statdium that were not smiling during the opening ceremonies. I guess when you are straight up gangsta thugs, you can't be throwing smiles around like dollar bills. Word.

Exactly. There are teams in the basketball competition that weren't as skilled as our team, but came out with more heart and more of a team spirit, and that's what won it for them. Hats off to them. I dont mean to say they weren't talented, but the US team should've been able to do actually command wins here and there, instead of struggling to stay in the Olympics like they have been this year. The part that really pisses me off is that I dont think it'll make any difference in their attitude in the long run. Before I go off on a drunken rant on the state of "sports heroes" in the US, I'll stop.

i will admit that their outlooks were lame, but they had been together as a team for like three weeks? How long did the other teams practice together, becuase it makes a huge difference.

If we're going to put a professional basketball team in the olympics, it should be the team that won the championship that year. Notice I said team, not 12 individuals. Iverson on the team is about all the attitude that team can handle. I'm SO looking forward to him stepping on his crank at some point.

The Detroit Pistons would have absolutely demolished the Olympic teams. Time to stop sending a collection of individuals to the Olympics. We need to send a TEAM.

I couldn't agree more with you all. I cracked up when I heard that Puerto Rico beat us, and I'm really glad it happened. The Olympics have been a total failure given the absolute dominance of American basketball, so hopefully this will help knock the players off their pedestals (assuming that could actually happen:rolleyes:).

True, but bronze ain't gold.
This is the first time in 16 years that the American "team" wont get gold. Personally, I'm all for it. Its about time those prima donnas in the NBA got a wakeup call. Besides, did anyone see Iverson during the medal presentation? He had nothing but contempt on his face, as did the rest of that "team". See why I hate basketball so much?

What I would love to hear is the telephone calls from the old schoolers. Bird, Jordan etc...I imagine some of those oversized brats will get a talking to from the real players of the game.

Pretty big. I know I have always been a fan. Used to play a lot of street and compete. Probably my favorite team sport. Most of my friends played and watched as well. I really dont keep up with any team sport anymore for various reasons but tend to keep track of what is going on in basketball as that is a love of mine.

With the TO Raptors it definately got more interest in Ontario, but the players themselves are turning fans off up here. No heart (do I need to go through the superstars who played for TO and got 'injured', bunch of cry babies), too much money and whine more than a stuck pig. Same reason why after 94 baseball is basically a past time instead of a sport to most people up here (that I know). I just wish we have Vancouver a team again so I could see more games, I really miss being able to watch it live.

wow that was long when I could have just said "Pretty popular but the players are turning a lot of 'almost fans' off the game" hahaha Must be the hangover

Race Card? Really...I don't think it is/was a race issue in the least. How does that come into play (excluding the mocking of hiphop and its high level of communication). If it had been a bunch of white guys with the same type of game and ego's (a number of hockey players come to mind with no work ethic) I know I would say the same thing.

Race... Class... whatever reread the thread and keep arguing that, i didn't bring it up, the tone of what people are sayin did.
But moving beyond all of that crap, my argument stands that if you examine the lineup and know a little about the players that were selected, you'll understand they were in the hole from the start. To me it's amazing they even presevered to get a bronze. Armed with no "true" point's to distribute the ball, no pure shooting 2 or 3's, only one bonafide post threat in Tim Duncan, and no defensive specialists (again except for Tim Duncan), well it's like trying to win an XC race on a DH bike in my eyes.
I saw the games and for the most part it appeared to me they played hard, probably harder than the prior "dream teams", because they had to.
Look i'm not sentimentally attached and going to defend these rich dudes because i like em, i just don't agree with what people are saying on why they lost.

Their attitudes are the worst in pro sports. They lost cuz they are arrogant dickheads. We don't like them because they are arrogant dickheads. Race has nothing to do with it. Nice try though :nopity:

A lot of countries must feel about their soccer teams, as well as other teams, like we feel about our basketball team.
