A standard Bell/Giro cycling helmet probably isn't the best helmet in the world when it comes to saving your life in a crash. I've broken 2 E2's and I'm thankful that I had them on, but I seriously doubt they "saved my life."

I rock motox full face on my DH bike. . Thankfully its still my choice.

Well that's the difference between you and me. You don't see a need to do it, I don't think you have the right to do it.

That is also the foundational differences between the way America was founded ( freedoms ) and the way Socialist and to some degree Communist countries work today. Just ask the Chinese.

Now that you have asked for my opinion, I know there was strong resistance against helmets in the peleton until a very popular rider, Andrei Kivilev, died from a head injury which would have been prevented if he was wearing a helmet.

I do not know how many riders do not wear helmets during training, but you don't hear anyone complaining about helmets anymore.

Same thing could be said about seatbelts today.

Now, impounding bicycles is just a grandstand play. They would not do this in Portland or Austin, but it can work in a small town if you are trying to teach kids and their parents to wear a helmet.

Passive safety devices usually receive the typical complaints of "its my right not to use one" or "it interferes with... whatever".

However, what usually happens is someone gets killed then they everyone goes along with the safety changes. Just look at Dale Earnhardt.

Driver's licenses are required to drive cars. Drive your car without a license and it can be impounded.

We don't require licenses to drive bicycles.

Are you saying that the government doesn't have the right to require driver's licenses? Because I'm saying the government doesn't have a need to require bicycle licenses.

I love to see a law that gives you a seatbelt exemption if you have a #3 sticker on your pickup.
