"non uci rider regestration" ?

Diablo style?

I want to race, but have no license, i would assume you need 1 but apparantly not?

If so, how hard will this be, id generally say i ride in CAT 1, but i have never won a CAT 1 race, so would "racing down" work, or am i looking at a 30 second lead? I dont wana be "that guy" and i generally do bad at DH events, but with my luck i would end up winning by a stupid margin, thoughts for us Senior X athletes?

The "Citizen's" race at Windham is a USAC sactioned event so their rules and categories will apply. You will need a USAC license or you can purchase a one day Cat 2 or 3 license to race. You cannot purchase a one day Cat 1 or Pro license.

then you should race at a mountain that supports the only sanctioning body for mountain biking in the US.

I'm having a hard time understanding what the e-gument is here. I signed up and it did not ask me for my usac lic #. Therefore, I imagine that you could sign up for Cat 1??? Of course they may ask for your license upon arrival, though. That would negate my above claim.

..and if that is the case: why complain? I mean it's a UCI race with a ton of rules. If you don't have a USAC license then just suck it up and be glad you don't have to comply with all the UCI rules. You never know, you might actually have some competition in CAT 2.

Don't be surprised if that's exactly what they do to you. It wouldn't be the first time & there are NO refunds on race fees...
So then it will be: pay for a year license (4 months left for $75), or do not race & you just wasted your race entry $$ & gas to get there.

You do need an Annual license in Cat 1 or Pro to race ANY USA Cycling Sanctioned event in those categories. Those are the USAC rules of a sanctioned event.

Unfortunately whomever set-up the BikeReg online registration did not set it up to require that question or requirement to ask for a License.

Yes, I understand all of this. There was nothing on the reg site for your USAC license #. Essentially, you could sign up for any class you like, but you'll most likely run into trouble in person at registration.

Dear USAC, offer a catch all class, one-day license to those not wanting to sandbag in the Cat 2 or Cat 3 classes. The AMA does this in motorcycling. I have seen it called the "Heavy Trail" class for hare scrambles. It has everyone from beginners to As. The class doesn't count towards series points and has no cash prize. Pretty simple.

And you too are right, you would run into a problem at registration if you try to register online or on-site without being licensed already as a Cat 1 or Pro. Now USAC requires you to request a Cat 1 or Pro license through the USA Cycling website, once you have a license already, in say Cat 2 for example this rule has been in place I believe since 2008. Do not quote me on that timeframe.

eh, I thought I would dominate sport class in my age group...turns out there are enough sandbaggers already to make it competitive...and I suck on race day/generally...so I'd go cat 2 and see how you do. It'll probably be a race. And if not, you win a thing.

USAC actually already allows for this, however it's on the PROMOTER of the race, not USAC, to implement it. USAC allows as many "open" type categories as the promoter would want to offer. For example, the Mountain States Cup has had a "Vet Pro" class in the past, open to any competitor over racing age 35 that wanted to run there.

Did not know that. Thanks for the information.

hey truckster, do these open categories give the opportunity for racers to buy a 1-day license? if they don't, i think that's the rub of the whole situation.

They do, actually. Example: a couple of years ago the Fall Classic, previously a non-USAC sanctioned event, was adopted as part of the MSC. So the promoter offers the "Maverick Open" class as there's a lot of Breck/Summit County local XC honches that only race locally and would murder the Cat 2 class, but aren't going to pop for a USAC license.
