I have an XT crank on my hardtail that I'm thinking about riding to work. It has a bashring on it now which works fine. I'd like to add a big ring for the long stretch of road that I'll hit, but it should only be one or two shifts up to it. I think I have an old saint chainring that I could use, but it's not ramped. Being that I only need an occasional shift, and am unlikely to need it on the trail, would it work for the occasional shift, or do I need a new ring?

you can try it, but don't be surprised if you get less than stellar results.

what size are you looking for and what BCD? i have tons of old chainrings sitting around, I'm sure I've got a ramped one that would work.
