hey, im a noob to the forum, not really to mtn biking tho.
i just built a hardtail mtb w/ CF frame and 140 mm rockshox revelation. i got it brand new, in original wrapping and everything. i took it out, read all the manuals to make sure i didnt need to do anyhting before riding it, and it didnt really say anything. i pumped it up to proper psi (im about 170 lbs, so i put in 125psi) and adjusted the rebound action.
took it out on the trail, and when i hit the first root it just about bottomoed out. while on the trail, the fork was constantly compressed about halfway, and when i hit a bump, it just about bottomed out.
when i finished the trail, got home, and let the bike sit,, the fork took about 10 minutes to totally uncompress and would sit at the proper 140mm again.
whats wrong w/ it? what am i doing wrong? what do i need to do to get it to stay at 140mm?!

Dual air version I assume? Did you miss the part where they mentioned the positive AND negative chamber setup? See the section on air spring tuning, I think its page 5-6.

so yall think its just a matter of me not having the positive and negative pressure properly tuned?
is there some sort of break in period of new forks?

yes there is a break in period. but something like what you described typically is not part of it.

-make sure your rebound is all the way out, then dial it in.

-ensure your air pressure is right. If its right according to the charts, mess around with it. I have an '08 revelation dual air (non XX) and I run mine something like 30 psi lower than what they recommend for my weight (200lbs) because otherwise i don't get full travel.

from what it sounds like, there may be an issue though. if that's the case don't worry - SRAM is good with warranties and stuff like this on brand new products.

also maybe try taking some air out of the negative chamber.

but what jon said, SRAM is pretty darn good with warranties.
