before I pass judgment on the price, the site mentions "help our growing US and local gravity series grow". How exactly (if at all) are any of the proceeds from sales going to do this? is any of the money going into a series? if so, what series?

i bought one. why? b/c i wanted one way back when they originally came out and couldn't get one. vintage/retro? maybe. funny? certainly. Ally? she seems nice. is it time for a change? definitely.

Let's just put it this way, the reputation the National Offroad Bicycle Association had was so bad... they changed the name!
You can change the name but, damn it still sucks us all dry!
Prob. half responsible for the state of the lack there of participation
in National MTB racing. There used to be a series of Nationals yah know,
With over 3000 competitors racing Mountain Bikes.
They are socialist now and hold us down! They just want us to
survive enough to pluck the few that they think are fast enough for the road.

Monkeyfcuker - almost the same story as the UK.

BCF (British Cycling Federation) happily Bled mtbers of their hardearned for years (as we're forced to have a license and membership to race at any decent level) but choose to plow it into our hopeless Road squads instead of mtb.. funnily enough a few years back they also re-branded their name to just "BC". AFAIK They now put a little more into mtb but mainly XC as it has olympic status.
It's pathetic, UK DH races aren't even run by them anymore, back When I started racing DH Nationals were actually run by BCF affiliated mtb clubs along with BCF officials and subsidised by the BCF. our National series isn't even called "National" anymore! Ironicaly we as a nation are more sucessful in DH than we'll ever be at any other discipline but all they seem to care about are lame ****ing olympic medals..

Look at the reality of the situation though - more people ride and race road bikes than mountain bikes, and FAR more people ride/race road/XC than DH. DH racing is a niche sport, comparable to ski racing or something (though without as much money in it), and the investments in it by various national cycling federations reflect that. All we're really bitching about most of the time is that our favourite sport is in fact fairly unpopular in the grand scheme of things and receives **** all funding as a result. Imagine if half the top 10 trials riders in the world happened to come from your country, would you actually expect your national cycling body to be spending all its money on those guys instead of on the road/XC squads? Of course not - hardly anybody actually pays attention to the competition results regardless of how good your countrymen are at it.

I'd be very surprised if more people raced DH in the UK than XC or road. I know you have a very strong DH scene, but I think you underestimate the real size of the road riding and racing population, not to mention their established spectator base. I admit it's entirely possible I could be wrong there, but unless road bikes are pretty uncommon there (which would seem to contradict the large volumes of them that I saw when I was in England in September) or you guys really do turn over about a million MTBs a year, I still reckon it's more than likely that the number of road and/or XC cyclists significantly outnumbers the number of downhillers.

I understand where you're coming from as far as proportional funding goes, but unfortunately people outside the DH scene seem to care little about it, which ultimately means little media coverage and little funding.

Wow, that's a lot of assumptions. Almost comical. And no road rider stats.

Having lived in both places, I'd say there is a higher percentage of mountain bikers in the UK in general, and therefore a higher ratio of mtbers to roadies.

But I'm not sure I'd say there are more mtbers than roadies. You see a lot of mtbers of all ages at trail centers, but then there are only 20 or so trail centers in the UK, and there are thousands of miles of roads.........

you'd base your assumptions on how many trail centres we have? WTF? I honestly can't remember when I last rode a trail centre.

Where I'm from there are way more off road trails than roads and unlike in the US we have access to ride them all.

Oh.. and BTW there are over 20 trail centres in Scotland alone (Scotland makes up only around 10% of the UK population)
