I recently aquired a Norco 125 frame :D

I'm trying to set it up with standard MTB cranks with a single chain ring and guide. Anybody have any suggestions on how to do this? I'm worried that a guide is really going to mess with my chain line and shifting.

Thanks for all the help!

Have you tried the chainline yet? Make sure you try it before you start worrying about adjustment issues. If the chainline is bad, then try a different length spindle for your BB.

I've kind of tried it.

I started with a 113mm spindle, a set of race face cranks (triple ring) and no guide. When I went to install the cranks the left one hit on the bottom bracket before it was tight. So I had to go to a 118mm spindle, which I think will only affect the non-drive side(?). With the chain up on the middle ring the chainline was not too bad.

So if I put a guide in there it will move my drive side out further, which should be offset by putting a single chainring crank on (?). But will I then need a longer bottom bracket like a 123mm for the non-drive side?

I was hoping that maybe someone else that has tried this would weigh in.

Thanks,
