Ok I was looking at the 04 Norco A-Line for $3375 (CDN) I could probably get it for less. Just wanted to know how good of a bike this is. Also how much would it be in american dolloars, being I live here in the states? Thanks.

Well, this is personal opinion, but I wouldn't buy one. Maybe the nes ones are different, but the old ones had a high shock ratio and were really load. Overall, that just seem like bikes that don't have anything good going for them.
Also, unless they change their US pricing to be competitive, they are going to be expensive based on what the exchange rate is doing right now.

This is a pretty subjective post so take it as that.

New A lines are 2.6:1 or 3:1 depending on travel setting, not totally insane leverage.

They come with an 888VF though. Eww! SSVF valving is nasty!
The frames look great and the parts are good, but that fork would feel harsh at speed IMO

ok, I take some of that back. I didn't realize they ditched the mono on all of the bikes. I thought it was just on the team frame. That solves my noise gripe. Zark says the shock ratio is better.
They also state the US MSRP as $2650. If you bought it in Canada with US $ it would cost you $2737 today. That doesn't seem too bad. If you have your heart set on a FSR frame, I doubt you could do much better.
As for the fork, if you weren't racing and worried about going really fast, the crappy SSVF would be tolerable.

The new A-Line looks wicked, a much racier bike than previous years. I have the 03 model which I bought as a cheap way into the sport and upgraded from there (it now sports only the original frame, shock and rear wheel!). This year the bike is definetely a great race worthy machine straight from the box (possibly bar the front fork) for anyone but those with lots of money to spend, its lighter, lower and less noisy than previous years and a quick spin on the 05 model convinces me it is a different beast to the past.

I dont know how the foreign pricing works out but here in the UK it is definetely one of the best value out of the box big hit bikes out there, a solid proven design at a great price.

Not sure about the new bike's, but I had a 01 VPS Shore. It was a great bike. It was dh'ed trailridden it handeled it all. I would buy another in a minute. And the A-line is 2600$. An M3 frame is 2600!

One thing I find weird about the Norco line up is the travel of their bikes.

The Shore has 7-8" in the rear with a 888R
The A-line has 8-9" in the rear with a 888vf

The A-line is cheaper with the VF 888 but has more travel. hmmm... I would just think the VF would be better on a Shore bike while the R would be better on the A-line.

Make sense?????

Thanks for the info every one. I think that will be able to tollerate the fork, I'll just have to get a new one if I dont like I guess.

I'm not positive but you may be able to just buy an aftermarket hcsv cartridge rather than a new fork.

As far as norcos in general, buildyourown has the old stuff in mind. We used to make bets on the chairlift at northstar before we saw the bike on whether it was an M1, Foes mono or a norco making the ruckuss. I've got an 04 shore frame and I really like it. The build quality isn't as high as my turner but it's not crap either. Travel ratio is 1: 2.8 , same for the a-line in the 8" mode, certainly not high. The a-line is their last year's dh frame, with a midrange parts spec. But for 2650 for a full blown brand new dh bike? I'd hit it.

Your face.
And why do you think that is?

I've spoken to norco a whole bunch, and it really is impressive the thought they are putting into thier bikes. The Aline is killer for this year, with a revised linkage for better ratios, and geo, 150 spacing, and really, pretty decent spec for the cost. Of course its not the ideal race bike, but for the money, it looks to be a great all around toy for sure.

gregcycles has the 04 Aline for $1700 USD right now. They were talking about it in the PNW forums.

I bought an 04 Aline about halfway thru 2004 due to delays in getting em over here.
Not too happy with the shock(Fox RC) it blows thru its travel on 3-4 foot high drops, unless you crank the compression pretty much full closed then you have no small bump plushness. Sent Shock to Mojo (UK Fox guys) who tested and said it was ok and probably needed re-valving to suit the bike.
Also the most of the rear suspension bearings are only shielded (metal shields rather than 'rubber' seals). The main pivot ones behind the BB are rubber sealed. This reduces stiction but isnt so good when you live in rainy England.
Oh the colour is crappy 'Rootbeer' but thats nothing paintstripper and Scotchbrite wont fix!
Good bike just needs a bit of tinkering to sort out.

The shore has the 888R because it's the top of the line "freeride" bike while the A-line has the 888vf because they're trying to make an affordable dh bike.

You would think with 9" of travel you would want a 888R since its the better fork.

Why would you but a crappy fork on a bike with more travel?

Anyway, I see what ya mean but is sure sounds weird to me.
