Man dies in motorcycle crash
May 3, 2006

A Simi Valley man died Tuesday outside his apartment building during a test ride on a new motorcycle that had just been delivered to him, officials said.

Jeffrey Montgomery, 33, was riding his 2006 Suzuki motorcycle shortly before 5 p.m. through the parking lot of the Indian Oaks apartment complex at 5513 Cochran St., Simi Valley police said.

He lost control and ran into a parking structure pillar, police said.

Montgomery was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head trauma, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Maybe a riding lesson should be included with purchase.

Well, he was stupid for not wearing a helmet of course, but I don't see how this is even close to "darwin award" which implies extreme stupidity.

There's no indication at all that anything stupid happened. He was riding a motorcycle, hit his head and died. Why is that funny?

In a parking garage, with no experience, no helmet.

Pretty stupid.

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that when someone buys a sportbike as their first motorcycle, it's an average of 2 days before their first wreck.

Why close? Did he already have a child?

It's amazing how many people think they can ride a motorcycle without lessons.

IMO it was more indicative of a socal attitude than funny- you wouldn't believe the numbers of idiots I've seen hauling ass on the freeways here, cutting lanes, wearing flip flops. Test riding your new bike in a parking lot with no helmet and enough speed to have a fatal collision sounds stupid to me.

Are you guys reading something I am not? He took delivery of a new motorcycle. It does not say he was a new rider. As a matter of fact, it doesn't say anything at all - it just says he was in a parking lot, hit his head, and died. You don't have to be going very fast to die after bashing your head on a concrete or steel pillar, especially if it had any kind of corner (i.e. knee high pillar, tiered, etc.)

I don't get this thread. Sorry. There's just no information to make me think it was anything other than an unfortunate accident. For all any of us knows he had ten years of experience riding bikes and this one time a dog ran out in front of him.

I agree that there are a tremendous number of stupid and cocky riders around. I just don't see where this guy fits in.

Sorry BV but I think the odds are on T-dog's side here as to whether or not the dude was being an asshat :D
They undoubtedly are. Just seems like an odd thing to start a thread over, with a title like this one.

If I posted an article about a guy on a huge travel bike dying of a head injury, I could easily draw the conclusion that he was hucking off some stupid concrete drop to flat and didn't know how to ride his bike, but without any of that information about the situation it makes for a less-than-interesting statement.

I'm with BV on this one. I got all excited to hear some humorous tale of stupidity only to be let down with what appears to be a mundane accident. How disappointing.

Not cool man. Just cuz his head got shoved through his body into the lower regions is no reason to make a joke about him wearing his ass on his head :dead:

Oh wait, yeah, it is.

Wait, so this guy didnt light his balls on fire, jump off a house with an umbrella for a parachute, attempt to tight rope a power line or anything? He just crashed a motorcycle?

Lame.

when it comes to concrete pillars in parking lots "enough speed to have a fatal collision" is pretty low....a pretty low speed (running speed) would be enough if your unlucky. :nopity:

that's why it's always dumb to ride without a helmet. :clue:

amen.

i have ridden both motorized and non without a helmet, but really, a new bike, one you've never ridden (eg. test ride), a bike you don't know how it handles... to not wear a lid, just retarded.

Anybody remember that scene from Pee Wee Herman where he borrows the Harley, hits the gas and crashes into a billboard? True or not, that's what I'm envisioning on this one.

The fact that it was delivered to him seems to suggest he didnt have any experience or a license, otherwise you just ride it home from the dealer and stop by the DMV to get your real tags. And if he lost control in a parking garage he is really dumb.

Not a good assumption. The dealer could easily have not had what he wanted in stock, or it could have been a used bike bought from someone that wasn't local. Or it could be as simple as he rode his car to the dealership and had no way of bringing both his bike and his car home.

And if he lost control in a parking garage he is really dumb.
Lot. Parking lot. Which could mean a million different things, from a small controlled lot, to a residential lot with kids, dogs and cars driving through. And the circumstances are unknown as to why he lost control.

It could have been his first bike and he could have been an idiot but we don't know that. All we know from the report is that he crashed a new Suzuki in a parking lot whilst not wearing a helmet and died. Anything else is speculation
