Now I've done it. I went too far.

As some of you have seen, I recently got a BB7. I have been asking what tires to put on it for the local dusty trails in Big Bear and the more groomed conditions in Whistler (2 weeks away baby).

Well, I ended up making my tire choice based on the best options the LBS had, instead of all the lovely advice some of you provided. I got a set of Nokian Gazza's. 2.6X24 for the rear, and the mother of all tires, the 3.0X26" in the front.

Crap those things look huge  I have not had a chance to do any more than a driveway test, but they feel silly big. Between the switch to a 24" rear and the fact that the 3.0 in the front is so big, I feel like I shaved 2 degrees off my head angle. I now understand the meaning of the term "chopper." I think I also managed to bring the bike up to an even 50lbs :oink:

I keep looking at the bike and thinking "I have no idea what I have done. I think I went too far this time." However, I have a feeling that, at a minimum, the results will be entertaining!!!

My only concern with setting the bike on fire is that the Nokians are so big that they may burn longer than the Springfield Tire Fire

If they do, just go for a ride on 'em. I'd crap my pants if I ever saw someone flying down a trail with flaming tires.

Well, with those tires, "flying" might be a relative term...

can you say Ghostrider?

But seriously, those tires are retarded big, cant lie i used to ride em when i first got in to DH and thought i would never use anything but...Its funny how you get used to riding less forgiving equipment it just makes you a better rider, try em out and if they dont work out sell them to someone with one of these

You'll never make that mistake again. :)

P.S. Minions are still the best.

I had 2.5 Minions on F219s 26/26 f/r. They worked fine. I don't know what my problem is. I cannot stop buying gear just for the sake (mmm... sake') of trying it. I am an addict ;?

Here's a tip...when buying stuff you don't need. Try NOT to buy the worst product in it's class!

Yes, you are. Either that or you're rich and bored. What was the guy at your LBS smoking when he recommended the 3" Gazzaloddi, or the 2.6", for that matter?

Any LBS employee recommending anything from nokian obviously does not ride the product. Maybe they were overstocked on crappy tires?

The only rear tires the LBS had for 24" wheels were the Noks. I needed a new 24" tire anyway, so I figured I would try these. As for the fronts, my buddy rides the 2.6 on his DH bike and likes them. I figured if the 2.6 is good, 3.0 must be better.

I am not a girl. I am 29. I am bored. I am in the unfortunate position of not having enough money to be rich and set for life, but having enough expendable cash to buy toys that need "upgrades and maintenance" which I feel the need to try, yet require the outlay of even more cash.

Oh well, it may not be the most rewarding life, but it keeps me from hurting other people. If I am not greasing the wheels of commerce, what else would I do with my money, shove it up my @$$?

I'll admit. I was curious and ordered a 3" Gazzi once. I got it at EP price so it didn't cost a lot. I ran it once in a snow race and it's been sitting in my basement ever since. Now I'm going to build a hardtail and put it on there just to be silly. I think it will be fun to ride a-line on a hardtail with 3" rubber. Maybe just as a novelty.

i mounted these beasts on the rims from my norco5hun. if they suck, i still have the minions w/ some tread left, which i know work fine. i can put them back on the bb7 and i can just put the nokians on my norco and run them for silly urban stuff. i have a rigid fork from Funn on the norco so the 3.0 will fit fine

y'all need to have some fun before yer :dead:

I ran a 3" in a snow race a few years back, slalom to be specific...Needless to say it had about as much traction as a snowboard does. You couldnt have used the tire for a worse application, IMO they work quite well when the terrain gets rocky and loose...stick it on the hardtail and run 3 psi   they are fun to ride for a bit, but are NEEDED!

I thought the 3" Gazzi was doomed for use in the HT class for DH where it's the only way to get some suspension out of the rear of a HT, 3.0 with less than 10 psi!

I hope where you're riding them is all down, steep enough to maintain some momentum.
