Yeah... you missed the thread in the lounge. Oh, and the side-track in the youtube thread too.

Wow, a BTR-60. It's impressive they got that thing to move. Russian engineering at its finest--powered by two agriculturally-derived diesels. Sounds smart, right? If one crappy engine dies, you have #2 to keep you moving at some kind of speed.

Except for the fact that each engine powers a different lateral side of the vehicle.

"Da, comrade, is good to half your reliability instead of doubling it!"

I did notice the Rolls and Ferrari on the camera wasn't crushed...

(On a serious note, that had to be a staged event, I think.)
And lest you fret over the collateral damage to the Mercedes, Vilnius purchased the vehicle specifically for the video stunt, according to the Guardian report.

Know why airplanes have more than one engine? So if one dies the other(s) can take you directly to the scene of the accident.

I've gone for a ride before wondering if I put all the washers back in...you ever have that happen at work?

I'd be a nervous wreck as a airplane mechanic.

This. How often do you end up with extra parts?

Meh. Honestly, if you can follow a recipe in a cook book you can be an aircraft mechanic. Aircraft Manuals are.....precise, if your actually following the book, its hard to screw it up. It doesn't really become much of an art until you move into electronic trouble shooting, sheet metal repair or composites.

For us dudes that had to work on slightly older aircraft that were not fly by wire, I'd say flight control and engine/prop rigging are an art.

Yea, the Brasilia was like that, and all the GA stuff I used to do. The Jets are pretty simple except for the fuel control, and even that is just drop a couple pins in rigging holes and tighten as needed.

It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads.
