Ron Schiller is correct. However, NPR fired Juan Williams for saying stuff out loud that he shouldn't have, so NPR has placed itself in the position of having to fire everyone who says something that the right can manufacture into an issue.

They ALWAYS do a better job. It's just funny that they got caught bad-mouthing the frothers. They've always claimed to be neutral.
There is a difference between claiming and being. As for the comment by the director that they would be better off without Federal funding, that's a great idea. If a senior person there can admit it, then it must be true. Can someone please zero their govt sponsored budget indefinitely?

They've always claimed to be neutral.
So the fact that one of their employees has an opinion means that the organization can not report news in a neutral way?

Personally I don't see the big deal the guy wasn't even involved in the day to day operations of the organization. He just goes around telling people what they want to hear so that they hand over the cash.

This is splitting hairs in some sense but it is worth pointing out that NPR the network is not directly funded by the federal government.

It's my understanding that federal funding of public radio goes mostly to the individual member stations. Federal dollars go to NPR indirectly since the fees the stations pay to NPR for programming make up the largest share of the network's funding. It will be interesting to see how NPR evolves their business model in the future as the internet allows NPR to deliver their content more directly to listeners. While NPR's web app on Chrome is awesome, I still love me some WAMU, WHYY, KPLU, and KUOW.

If govt funds end up there indirectly, they are being paid by the govt. Dollars are fungible. Try again, thank you please.

I'm still waiting on the big revelation about how this all proves that NPR is SOOOOO biased in their reporting.
To your average fundamentalist, christian, rightwing, gun-toting, tea-partying republican, facts and reality have a liberal bias.

Only thing that matters now is that they're in charge of the money and will shut things down that don't agree with them.. unions, NPR, the EPA, planned parenthood, you name it. Has nothing to do with budgets.

If they were really worried about cutting taxes and saving they would go after the two biggest items in the national budget, military and Medicare.

Yeah, exactly.

Although Im not even sure how realistic cutting medicare/medicaid/SS is. I mean outside of the fact that that's the conservatives' biggest voting block, it's just going to be damned expensive no matter what you do and IMO, seniors ought to get better care than they do now. What we really need are tax hikes and defense cuts. Including ending pointless wars.

Hiding from the stupid
Beck says that Obama has a deep seated hatred of white people right on the air.

The left needs to stop being such a bunch of pu$$ies and tell the frothers to go sit on a post when this kind of stuff comes out.
