Snippet:
A chilling video shows a deranged ex-Marine pumping five shots into an unarmed auxiliary cop slumped behind a car in Greenwich Village before chasing down the victim's teenage partner and coldbloodedly executing him with a bullet to his head.

In the shocking footage played by NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly at a press conference yesterday, it takes gunman David Garvin only seven seconds to kill hero auxiliary cops Nicholas Pekearo, 28, and Eugene Marshalik, 19, on Wednesday night.

Friends said Garvin, 42, a divorced father of two who recently lost his job as a bartender, had become increasingly paranoid. Cops discovered an arsenal of weapons in a bag he dropped near the shooting scene and at his Bronx home.

If that happened in LA it would have been gang related. Portland it would have been meth related and in Kentucky it would have been spurred on by a 36 hour drinking binge of miller light and the guys girlfriend sleeping with his cousin mert.

why were the poor cops unarmed?
Auxillary cops in NYC apparently are always unarmed. From how I understand it, they are like a neighborhood patrol. They call in on their radio if they see something going on and the NYPD responds.

Seems pretty asanine that uniformed officials (aux. cops) aren't armed in any way. Even a tazer or something like that would have at least given these guys a fighting chance against this lunatic.

I dunno about that dude. When you have a lunatic ex-marine running around with an arsenal of weapons, a bodycount of 2 probably is about as low as you could hope for.

Body count was 3. He shot someone else in the back before he went after the cops. At least that's what I read in a separate article.

Probably would have been no help, but considering the video shows him basically just walking up to the guys (who had no recourse but to try and hide behind parked vehicles) and essentially executed them, every little bit would have helped.

Either way, it's a really f'ed up situation. When the guy tried to shoot it out with the NYPD, that's a bad sign.

He shot a bartender 15 times, then went outside where the reserve officers followed him.

Reserve officers can wear a vest, but they have to buy it themselves.

They aren't even issued any kind of body armour?

Jesus, you've got to be kidding me. Wonder how many people will actually apply for this job from now on...
Taken from the story on CBS:

New York University student Marshalik was just two weeks shy of his 20th birthday. Pekearo, 28, was a writer about to have his first book published.

Auxiliary police officers do not carry weapons but have uniforms that make them resemble regular police officers. They are not provided bulletproof vests but are allowed to wear them. Pekearo was wearing a bulletproof vest, but only one shot hit the vest; bullets punctured his skin six times.

Boston....outside of it....
welll... now we know what to do with all those testosterone laden 20 somethings that are convinced they are going to be heroes someday, if only the bad guy just appeared... and all they had was a toothpick to defend themselves..

I think that's where auxiliary cops come from.

why tf would you sign up for that otherwise?
