There's someone with same name as @6thElement on the tracker, had to do a double-take on that one. And i just found out I have a friend racing this year, he's holding strong just under 200 miles in after 2 days, hoping for a 6-day finish. And another couple I know are "just riding" i.e. bikepacking it. They started a couple days before the racers and are going in the same direction. The first couple racers just passed them today.

Ha, definitely not me this time. Wife and I are scouting for a weekend bikepacking trip soon and I do have a 400 mile loop I want to do...But racing CTR isn't currently near to the top of my list. We are slowly riding the occasional segment working our way to Durango, probably Camp Hale to Holy Cross this weekend.

Went to Rocky Knob in Boone, ran into an old acquaintance who said she hadn't ridden since nationals. I kept up for about 150 yrds. I've barely been riding and was sucking wind like I was designed for it. She had a top 10 finish in masters, I should have known better. Oh well, nothing like a friendly ass whippin' to start a ride.

Checked out some of the new DH trail and it is off the hook with steeeep boulder features. When they finish it's going to be one seriously scary trail. Pucker factor is huge. One boulder roll down is about a 45° angle with multiple steps/ledges that look like they would grab your front wheel. A very steep bermed corner utilizes a boulder as part of the line, very cool.

Had a burrito at Black Cat and got checked out by some college age women. Not bad for an older guy, though it is kind of dimly lit.

nice. acadia is awesome. we always hope to get up there when seeing my parents, but it's far enough to get to from the pemaquid peninsula that the extra 3.5 hour drive, plus paying for somewhere to stay, never ends up seeming worth the hassle, especially since there's cool stuff to do near where the parents live.

too bad you didn't have time to stop at Brandywine to see their Wyeth exhibit - they've got the goods.

pork tenderloin was great. then took the 12yo to rex known do and came back to drink more stouts, eat a tub of guacamole, do a bit of work, and stare at my bike in the garage and wonder when i'll ride it again.

wife's recovery is going pretty well but the 4-6 week slow recovery window is definitely not a joke. plus she reacted badly to the pain meds, so she's basically been taking over the counter stuff since the day after receiving 200+ stitches in her innards. she's a bit more mobile now, but really can't (and shouldn't) do much. I'm juggling working from home, going in for an hour or two, managing kids, and keeping food going/stuff clean, etc. #summerofsuck is in effect. le sigh.

Where did today go!

Sold my car. Bike shopping. Thinking I like the look of the Ghost SL AMR 5. Was comparing it to the popular Giant Reign SX. The SX wins in the looks department, but the Ghost looks like a 8 dressed up as a 5.

That, and the SX is essentially sold out in Canada right now in Medium size.....

Might just be new bike day tomorrow....

Also, the 2017 Nissan GTR is a fast machine... Perk of the job is doing road tests...

I ended up just getting a set of Race Face Chesters. Have another bike laying around that could really use a pair anyway so I figured I should just suck it up and grab a pair. I'll be using an older set of 5.10 hiking shoes for now to see if I enjoy this flat pedal thing before getting a proper set.

I had a set of 5.10 Impacts say 10 years or so ago that I wasn't very impressed with. Have they improved since then? They never really felt like a huge improvement over a set of Vans except for a more protected toe box.

Dunno what they used to be like, but the Impacts are heavy AF. But they are sooooooooo grippy on the pins. I was using some generic Patagonia lightweight hiking boots prior to the 5.10s and it was night and day after switching.

some great deals to be had there, but i have a common shoe size (10.5) so its usually pretty slim pickins
