With High winds and Heavy rain for cast for tommorow, I was out side and looked up on my roof and notice a 2 loose shingle , out with the ladder, Hammer , Nails, and roofing cement ! Oh what fun it is !
I had to replace my HVAC system earlier this year. $6k down the drain. Painting the house $800 in supplies and 40 hours of work. I'm going to need to get a new roof next year, that should be several grand. Everyone keeps telling me it is a great investment, but if I sell it I end up homeless. At least I can piss off the back deck whenever I want.

Think about it this way, if you sell it, you have enough money to take a couple years off of work. Get a trailer for your roadbike, put your mtb on it, tent, gear, etc.
Tour the country the best way with so little money needed

It's not really that hard. Read a book or watch someone else do it....As long as you've seen it done once or twice, you could prolly do it if you're handy and had at least a good nail gun......I re-did my garage roof (detached) this past summer with a buddy of mine that's been doing that sort of stuff for 20 years....we did it from start to finish in 6 hours (roughly 600 sq ft.). I could prolly do it in about twice the time if I was left to my own devices....he was scary fast with the nail gun. I'd get a shingle out and *poof* I'd need to give him another that fast.....
when I came home from trail work on Sunday , this is what I got to see . ( the section to the left is what I fixed on friday . o So Much fun to go up and install about 8 -10 new shingles, that of course don't match ( I have a pack left over from when the roof was redone the last time , but the ones on the roof have fadded a little. )
Westy...just have a roofing party.
Step 1 - buy a lot of beer & BBQ supplies, oh and shingles, nails, etc.
Step 2 - invite a bunch of friends with hammers over
Step 3 - tear off shingles and replace roof while consuming beer & food from step 1
