Yes, whats up with Mavic a Deemax with a 150/12mm seems like a no brainer.
Yea, this **** pisses me off. What wheels am i going to put on my new V10? Mavid would easily sell 2x as many Deemax pairs if they came in 150/12mm.

Who in he11 uses these things honestly.
Mavic makes a DH race wheelset that only comes with a regular axle.
There is like 2 people on the face of the earth who are still not running
a through axle on their DH bikes.

Who cares, deemax hubs make you commit to straight pull spokes you can only get from Mavic, that'll be a bummer right before a race run.

I agree build up a wheelset. I had a Dee-Max wheelset a few years ago and I really didn't like it. Don't get me wrong they are a good wheelset, but I don't like to run gear that is not available at my local shop.

The best thing is every time you crash or flex your wheel enough one or more of the spokes come unseated and pop out of their mounts. :stosh:

Don't know why anyone would want to use a propritary rim, spokes and hub for DH use. Especially when you can build your own lighter.

Price and convience. Quality wheelset for the price(cheaper than building a set) , nice warranty. How hard is it carry extra spokes?

huh?

DT Onyx Hubset: $260
2 x 823 rims: $170
74 x DT Comps and nipples: $50
Labor: $50
Total: $530

Deemax: $600

That's without looking for any deals.

Spokes failing isn't really the problem, when you side load the wheel the spokes release theirselves from the hub and start flapping around.

The Mavic road wheelsets are the only one's I haven't personally seen this happen to.

I am normally a HUGE Mavic supporter, and still swear by their rims. Unfortunally, it is all too easy to side load the wheel (especially for DH use) and have this happen. Under normal use and not while racing you can just stop and put it back in if it isn't roached and retension it. But imagine how pissed you'd be if it happens in your race run. I really doubt the warrenty would carry much weight if you decide to finish your run on a wheel missing spokes and it taco's on you.

Actually this one guy who may or may not have been a Mavic rep . . . wink . . . told us that if you buy the extended warranty program, Mavic will basically replace anything, including the dreaded bike-on-roof-rack-top-of-garage scenario as long as the shop submitting the warranty words it correctly. This is huge, as the extended warranty is only 7% of retail pricing, if I remember correctly.

That said, there are places to save weight on a DH bike that are good ideas, and other places that are bad ideas. 28 spokes, for most privateer racers, seems to me to be one of those bad ideas unless you put your wheel in the truing stand after every single day of riding. That's not totally unreasonable (and suggested by most wheelbuilders), but it makes life at the races a lot easier if you don't really need to do that. I guess I'm saying the DeeMax wheels are sorta cool, but it might be worth the extra bucks for most riders to do a Marzocchi/Hadley hub combo (for example, about $100 difference at our pricing w/ 823 rims and DT 14/15 spokes). Now as far as AVAILABILITY of Hadley hubs goes . . . :D

I heard that there will be 24in Deemax for 05...

Anyone care to comfirm/unconfirm?
If they make a 24" Deemax i will call Mavic and bitch out every human they have there. 24" before 150/12mm? I don't think so, especially since Mavic has openly said they don't agree with 24" wheels.

My 04 DeeMax's were $449.96 US (new) and I like em. Thru axle in the rear don't seem like such a big improvement to me unless you have a noodle swing arm. Am I just ignorant?

It's not just the Thru-axle its the width of the hub.

Ahh, yes, thank you. Now that the adult beverages have worn off I notice that's the point to this thread. Seems odd to limit a good product to an out of date format (size of axle and hub width).
