Isn't it a little early? I haven't watched TV tonight but last I heard we hadn't given those kooks anything. Maybe lil Kim just digs him some Clinton?
Having Clinton go in begging and scraping was enough. Meaningless perhaps to a western mind but the Japanese get off on that kind of sh*t and I've seen little evidence that Koreans or Chinese are much different.

My final word on this matter is that no way that Bush would ever negotiate with terrorists. He would have visited NK as the head of the largest army ever assembled, probably after we fought them and China for several years.

Is capitulating to NK preferable?

Bush wouldn't, and didn't, do squat. WTF army would he have sent to North Korea? He committed practically everyone in the armed forces to war in the sandbox over a lie when we should have been in Afghanistan looking for Osama. That dip**** Bush couldn't even manage the war he started against a country with practically no effective army and your advocating war against the Nuclear armed Chinese over North Korea? For Christ sakes even MacArthur got run over by the Chinese and he knew war. We haven't given Lil Kim anything and you clearly don't even know what capitulate means.

And if we went to war with China, I might have to switch sides...

Anyway, the worst part about this is the Clinton/Lisa Ling/Gore self-congratulatory parade we all have to suffer thru for the next few weeks...

The contrast between this thread and the parallel on on the moto forum I frequent is striking. Turns out motorcycle riders are hardCORE right wingnuts. Claims of "treason," "self-serving, overambitious parasites" and "deserve to serve their 12 years in a work-camp" abound.

:imstupid:

But in my defense, I live in a town where Sarah Palin is still talked about as if she was Jesus himself and where people make statements about the nation "socialist path" and NK way further out in right field than sanjuros in all seriousness.
I'm a liberal non-white San Franciscan living in a gay neighborhood whose entire family worked for city governments, including the welfare department

However, I am also very sarcastic.

My real opinion is that this is a good thing, something that Bush, Palin, or McCain could never achieve with their Mission Accomplished/Drill Baby attitudes.

I am still not looking forward to the Clinton/Gore media blitz.

Day 1: I noticed a lot of conservative voices saying how we should not have negotiated with NK, but the alternative several of them offered was to let these girls rot in prison.

Honestly, who's going to notice a couple more gooks in a North Korean prison camp?

Besides which, how do we know they were American? Have we seen their original birth certificates? I didn't think so...

I realized something after I saw Jon Stewart make jokes about Iran Contra and Ollie North.

Even if this was quid pro quo, which I believe it was not, every negotiation and concession with and for NK will be analyzed heavily, and if there is even a hint of tie-in, then Clinton and Obama will be railed.

If you were going to do some deal, it would have to be done secretly, like Iran-Contra. By keeping it so overt, the chances of quid pro quo is nil.

Santa Claus and jesus would be railed if they were percieved to be democrats.

The real Jesus was a hippy so maybe he just belongs to the green party. Santa is most likely a pedophile so definitely a card carrying foot tapping Republican.

Day 3: Admittance that the women violated NK law by trespassing. This does confirm my suspicion that their arrest was justified.

There are a lot of wannabe Robert Young Peltons out there (and as to what he himself is for someone to want to be, I'll save comment...). Disaster tourism is an in thing these days.

As much chest-thumping as I've seen among been-there-done-that PMC/mil types, I've seen just as much among the NGO crowd and "tourists" seeking self-validation by going to high-risk places for no real reason other than to see what it's like and actively eschewing security or common sense along the way.

Edit: Also, Kurdistan is actively trying to grow a tourist industry and has been for several years now... And why not? It's gorgeous and fascinating. Just that pesky "war" that's been going on for a little bit 'o time now.
