CHICAGO -- Barack Obama has tapped Joseph R. Biden Jr. as his running mate, bringing to the Democratic ticket a veteran senator with deep expertise in international relations, two high-level Democratic operatives told The Times on Friday.

The news broke after a full day of intense media speculation that included stakeouts at the homes of the top three contenders. The Obama campaign had hoped to keep the selection secret until the Illinois senator could reveal it to his supporters in text messages....

Well, here's hoping that if he wins, he makes Bill Richardson the Secretary of State. I think that'd be a good choice.

Obama's choices were fairly limited if he was going to exclude those who endorsed the Iraq war, and reconciliation seems to be a part of his message as much as anything else.

We should immediately go to the United Nations Security Council, condemn Russia’s action, and then get the Security Council to pass a strong resolution getting the Russians to show some restraint, and possibly at the same time generate some U.N. peacekeeping troops.
