Oddball question. 700c wheel on a mtb frame/fork...

I'm thinking of resurrecting my old Motiv MTB that I bought at Price Club 15 years ago. Want to turn it into a commuter.

Anyone know if a 700c wheelset will fit onto a mtb frame? Not worried about brakes... just wheelset for now. The front and rear hub spacing is standard 100mm/135mm. I'd check myself, but I don't have a 700c wheelset that I can test it with.

Thanks in advance!

If the fork is suspension corrected and the chainstays aren't super short you should be fine. I would double-check everything though.

it appears fine with my topolinos and schwinn homegrown, but that's without tires. I can't imagine it would be a problem, but my schwinn has plenty o clearance.

It's a rigid so no suspension to think about. I seem to have plenty of room to play with. I'm going to procure a 700c wheelset off of CL tonight. The frame and fork have mounting holes for caliper brakes, and it just so happens I have a set in a box somewhere.

My buddy did this with an old Cannondale hardtail. He ordered a new fork to use a disc brake on the front and fit some 700c wheels to it.

Kazlx... Years ago, (since the frame/fork is CroMo) I welded IS brake tabs on the rear dropout and fork during a welding class I took at the local college. The 700c wheelset I bought last night slipped on just fine with tires and all. According to the spoke calculator, I should be able to reuse most if not all the spokes with the disc hubs that I took off the old wheelset. SCORE!

My buddy ended up using mountain wheels, but he mocked up 700c wheels to see if they would fit. He bought a new fork with a disc brake mount and made an adapter for the rear out of 1/4" aluminum. He had the frame stripped and powdercoated white. The thing came out pretty cool and I think it cost him about $300 total with all the parts and work.
