Foes did exactly that with their F1 forks years ago. it had a bolt screwed into the lower crown that was used in conjunction with a stop attached to their frames.
and if they get any dirt under them, they fall off right away.
Manitou supplied similar bumpers with the original Dorado. they never stayed on for very long
