I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The fiance' got a little motion sick toward the beginning. Once I adjusted to the shakiness of it, I really liked it.
I also liked the unique flashback utilizing the old camera footage. I thought that was awesome.
The acting wasn't bad, and Hud (Hudson) was great comedy relief.
All in all, I would have liked them to explain more on the purpose of the monster. Where it came from, why, how it got there, etc. But that is pretty much my only gripe.

Except that was a key concept in the movie... not knowing is okay.

Agreed on the monster thing, but it wouldn't have been very easy to put in there really. Maybe that's what a sequel might be?
How? They happen to meet some guy in the subway who knows everything about the monster?
The military stops what they are doing to explain everything they know?
They stumble upon a secret government lab inside Macy's that has all the classified records?
The whole point of the single camera thing was the "WTF is that thing/WTF is going on??" angle.
No, I'm saying they really couldn't, unless there was a quick "wrap" on the DOD tape, but I liked it the way it was. Maybe a sequel would be a more "traditional" movie, and explain it that way...

On second thought, I'm all for a secret DARPA lab inside of a Manhattan Macy's, they could have secret entrances through phone booths and stuff! And James Bond watches, and flying cars...
I was looking for it cuz of the preview... "We Have A Bite!" I knew that meant something, so I was looking for mutations in the MASH unit. Besides the "person" being wheeled by in the plexiglass containment unit, you could see "something" happening to their bitten friend.
I thought that was just one of them they killed? But if it was human...

I definitely caught that. But then is there contradiction? Or two different outcomes as far as bites go?
Some people mutate? And other people just simply explode due to the monster growing inside of her.

I thought that part where they were on Coney island visiting happened about 2 weeks before the alien struck...so I think the crash in the water you see is the alien arriving...D

yeah it's at the very end...since they were taping over their trip to the island...when it cuts back to him and her if you look to the right hand side of the screen you can see something crash into the water....I bet you can find it on youtube or something though...D

well just saw cloverfield and i thought it was a pretty kick ass movie.the action parts were pretty awesome kind of made me want to join the military so i can go and fight big ass monsters.but my only problem was that they really don't tell you where the monster came from or anything on it's back ground . you know i like you lordopie but where you making sh*t up on your spoiler ? one more thing me and a group of high school kids waited for something to happen after the credits like some people say and that's just a rumor nothing happens we were like wtf ?

As with lost there was crazy viral campaign for the movie, if you go to http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/ it gives a lot of background info that people discovered from clues given out over the past year or so. The whole plot is really crazy, and the producer said there will be more (he wants it to be the american godzilla) But they will pretty much all be like Cloverfield, with only one pov, the interweb nerds say its going to be from the army point of view and answer a lot more questions but thats just random guessing I think.

dude, i'm lame .i wish i would of read the total thread before going to see the movie. i waited till the credits where finished and heard this but couldn't make it out and i was expecting something visual , but this kicks ass. i also missed the aliens crahing into the water frick ! i can't wait for the dvd.
I think I might go see it again, like a matinée, now that I know where to look extra carefully.

JJ Abrahms (director) said in an interveiw the crash in the last scene is a satellite that fell out of orbit, owned by the japenese company rob is moving to work for. The satellite in turn awakens the monster that has been underwater for thousands of years....
thats direct from the director..... there is a crap ton of viral stuff out there put out by slusho and a few other sister sites, all revolving around the backstory and history of the japanese company, tagruato i think, and the arrival of the monster. also alot of stuff on the mysterious loss of an oil rig....

JJ Abrams is the producer, Matt Reeves directed it.
But yeah, I think that's a lot of what's going on. Abrams also said that they monster is a baby, scared and looking for it's mommy or something to that effect.
