Vatican tells UN that critics of gays under attack

Archbishop Silvano Tomasi said the Roman Catholic Church deeply believed that human sexuality was a gift reserved for married heterosexual couples. But those who express these views are faced with "a disturbing trend," he said.
"When they express their moral beliefs or beliefs about human nature ... they are stigmatised, and worse - they are vilified, and prosecuted.

"These attacks are violations of fundamental human rights and cannot be justified under any circumstances," Tomasi said.

Do they really expect to be taken seriously???

I'm just imagining the pope with his pimp hat, pimp cape and pimp cane saying "Don't hate the haters".

They are actually enjoying this.
There is no better way to consolidate and strengthen your control than by giving your followers a common enemy and claiming that they are being persecuted for their beliefs.

So obviously there are numerous examples of these persecuted homophobes being driven from their neighborhoods, fired from their jobs, beaten, lynched, and tied dead to fences, right?

Wow.
Only read the first line of that article and I had to close it.
The second sentence was even better...

In a defiant and provocative statement, issued following a meeting of the UN human rights council in Geneva, the Holy See said the majority of Catholic clergy who committed such acts were not paedophiles but homosexuals attracted to sex with adolescent males.

Well when you look at it from that angle, I guess it's not so bad after all.

The statement, read out by Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, the Vatican's permanent observer to the UN, defended its record by claiming that "available research" showed that only 1.5%-5% of Catholic clergy were involved in child sex abuse.
Up to 5%...really? Of all Catholic clergy? How many is that total?

Maybe it's just me, but even 0.00000000000001% is totally unacceptable when it comes to raping kids.

Pretty big range. And 5% is A LOT.

I agree, even one case is too many. :(
