OK, decision time!

Found two in my area going for really good prices. Should I waste my money and finally get a road bike, or should I just save my cash. My father is an Illinois Motorcycle Safety Instructor...so believe me...I know all the risks. ...BUT at the same time, I can go take the course he teaches and get 10% off insurance.
:p

 Nice ride!!! I say GET IT! You only live once. BUT....do not and I repeat do not give up mtb!!! I have seen it happen and it's not pretty :(
aww...no no no. Not gonna give up on the MTBs. That will NEVER happen. I mostly want to get it for short trips and such. Times when it's just plain dumb to take the truck out of the garage at 15.4mpg. :(

I'd take the bike and get 40mpg :p

Ummmmm........NO!

I want something comfortable to ride that isn't a touring bike. The Honda 919 is not an all out street race bike. It pulls about 100HP at the wheel with it's 900cc motor, and doesn't require you to lay down to ride it. Only thing I didn't like about the bike when I checked it out was the bar. Too narrow for my shoulders and too much back sweep.

Dual Sport!

KTM's (400cc is ideal)
Suzuki's (many models)
Honda made a 650 and a 250cc DSport model
Keep it ator under 600-650 and you get a dirt ridable bike also.

the Suz DRZ400 dual sport is pretty much the standard. Power, wieght, suspension....are pretty good at a cheap entry price.

buddies DRZ400S that he rides all over the place.

I'd need something a little more fit for the highway if I end of getting part-time work downtown. I was looking @ Kawasaki KLR 650s and BMW 650 GSs, but decided I wanted something that would be more comfortable on a slightly longer trip. Who knows, I may even want to go out to Colorado on the bike some time.

BTW, I already have a dirtbike.

Cool. What do you have for a dirtbike? The two bikes you mentioned are pigs but have the displacement.

PS - getting that Honda with no windshield or fairing is going to make extended road trips pretty sh!tty also. ;) That is still a cramped seated position too....regardless of where they mount the handlbars. :)

I would opt for a midsized (750-800ish) cruiser. Lots of freeway power, lighter for around town. Windshild and saddle bags and you are all set. The larger cruisers are heavy but the midsized cruisers are decent....better for around town stuff.

My mothers Suz Intruder 750 was a blast. A big windsheild and saddlebags and you could ride all day......My parents even have ridden to Sturgis (from WA state) multiple times.

For dirtbikes I've got a Honda and a Penton KTM 125.

I'm just got really a cruizer/hog type person. The 919 barely had any vibration, and has you sitting far more upright than a full on street bike. I felt it was comfortable. Also, I don't think you're really going to be finding a bike as light as it is. It's dry weight is 427 lbs. I'm only 5'9", so it really didn't feel cramped to me. You can get an aftermarket windshield for the bike, so that is not a worry. As for carting stuff around. I've got my Timbuktu bag. :)

If I really wanted to go on a long LONG trip, I could always borrow my dad's BMW K75.

Oh...I also want to stay away from carb'd bikes.

one of them new "penton" KTM's (the 125 or 200 with the blue plastic made a few years ago) or the old original Penton 125's

That is cool I can't see myself spending much time on a crotch rocket either....which is what that is btw ;) :) Most new cruisers dont' vibrate much anyway...Harleys with out counter balancers shake....my fathers 2000 Harley has a counter balancer in it and it barely shakes/vibrates.

Suzuki changed their line up and they are all new names....but their 50 cubic inch Vtwin wieghs in at 445pounds and carries it low. That is about the same as my mothers (all 5'1" of her and she could ride it) bike. The S50 Has a 27.5" seat hieght also....helping us with short legs (I have wear 29" inseam pants.) The S50 is 445lbs their C50 (larger bike...more harley fat boy like) is almost 100lbs heavier.

The Suzuki SV650Sis 372lbs and a 31.2" seat height. The SV1000S is like 412lbs and a 31.5" seat height. Both "standard" crotch rockets. :)

I want an SV650 quite badly myself. Either that or a Honda XR650R set up supermoto-style with some street wheels and tires and big brakes...

Always wanted a motorcycle, since I was a kid...just never found myself in the place to make it happen, with enough money or free time in which I wasn't mtbing, etc. We'll see what happens when the new job finally happens. In the meantime, buy the bike so I can live vicariously! Just don't smear yourself on the street.

Ohhhhhh SWEET! I didn't see teh pic when I responded. :D Nice  bike. :thumb: Do you race it at vintage races? Or is it just for show?
I know it's a crotch rocket still. Just doesn't really look like one, and you don't have to lay down to ride it. I hate all out cratch rackets. They just look silly. I like the naked look and also the fact that with them the cops never usually look at you. You might as

I race it at vintage races. My father has another 5-6 of them. 125s and 250s, Monarchs, Bultacos, etc.
