actually, i like all of the top 25 songs (NiN breaks the streak), but there are a few odd choices in the top...'creep' as the best radiohead song? the 'mats 'alex chilton' (the production on that record aged horribly)? wtf? and what is the definition of 'modern' rock?

the buggles made the list...

who wants to bet that Wire's "Strange" only made it because REM covered it? weak.

i guess 'modern' rock means the exclusion of indie labels...aside from a couple of cursory Matador selections (pavement, liz phair, GBV) which i think actually had Capitol distribution (definitely the Phair, probably not the GBV, not sure on the Pavement), i can't think of another indie label represented...then again, welcome to the state of commercial radio.

And personally, I think "If I Only Had A Brain" is the best MC 900ft Jesus track.

i lost steam...ended up w/ 175 out of 500 (that i *bought*, not that i have...the total would probably add another 75-125 to the total, but there's some real sketchy stuff i'd never consider top 500 material in there...

i did notice mentions for grandaddy and neutral milk hotel, which was cool.
