OK, so I have a ‘bad valve’ in one cylinder, with the most likely outcome being the need for an engine rebuild. There is some debate about how extensive this needs to be. The problem sounds exactly like a exhaust manifold gasket, FWIW.
It runs just fine, and could be a valley car for many months according to some. However, I need a reliable vehicle for towing and winter travel. The debate is whether to sell it now in this super hot used market, with the condition disclosed, and be without a truck until the new models finally reach dealers again after supply line impossibilities.
I will get more for it if I trade it in if it can drive onto the lot, obviously. I don’t think paying 5-7k for the repair is worth it, the thing is probably only worth $10k anyway.
What say ye, monkeys?
give it a shot at a high price and see if anyone bites? I could go without a truck for a few months, but probably not the whole winter.

A used head for that can't be more than a few hundred dollars at most and should be easy to replace. Should increase the value or at least you won't need to disclose a bad valve any more.

What kind of truck? Valve should be between a 5 and 14 beer job + parts.

May be tempted to dump it on CarMax anyway, feel zero guilt not telling them about the issue, they'll dump it at auction and not disclose it to them anyway.

My guy, who I entirely trust, said he didn’t want to fix the one, he wanted to do the full Monty. he honestly didn’t know how much it would cost, but he did say to be prepared. How does ‘dumping it onto Carmax’ work, exactly?

Well, TBF, Gorilla tape has been a pro pit-fix for decades now, and that was what I used it for.
The removal was a whole nother issue…but no, I have absolutely no interest in rebuilding an engine, I would rather use my free time to ride my bike, thank you very much.

If it's a Dodge it should be about the same

Oh, the nearest one of those is 500 miles away. Not practical.
Carvana? Zoom? Givemethevin.com? Goot be somebody out there in J-hole buying people's used G wagons and Teslas. They're all about the same, and all a reasonably guilt free way to off your car for okay-ish money fast.

I used the Kelly Blue Book online appraisal/offer app, two people called me within five minutes. We will see what they come back with with the ‘engine click’ undisclosed, and go from there.

If you think that I a good price wait until you try to get a new one to replace it.
I am willing to wait 5 months. If they can find the vehicle that I am looking for for around 30, I’ll buy it. I sent pictures of the upgrades I did to it, and they ran all of the checks, and upped their offer by 2k to 18,200. And the offer is guaranteed, done deal if I take it within a week.

Silverado? So an LQ4 or 9 probably (assuming a v8), that’s a solid day of work to swap both heads if you’re semi mechanical. $2g-ish at book

Holy crap, carmax offer is $16k sight unseen. Does anyone know if these offers are binding enough for me to drive to SLC next week?
Should be, their car buyers aren’t paid to pay attention, they’re there to buy cars abd get a commission on every one they buy. Unless it’s a really clean truck with all the options, a 2013 is going to the auction, so they give zero fucks.

But also try some of the other used car dealers, some will pick it up, if you can save the trip to SLUT, why not?

i asked around, no one will come to me. We are in the middle of nowhere. Honestly, I don’t think I am going to do better than 18k.
However, I do have this offer in hand, I will hit up the local dealerships to see if they can do better, why the fuck not. I have a week.
