Some of you have seen this Kelly Ro Sham Bo before as a dual-sport with road wheels, 38mm tires, and drop bars. But since I am just using it out of my house in Honduras now, where there are loads of dirt roads and jeep trails, I figured it was time to set it up for all dirt.

QBP built the wheels with Deore LX hubs, Salsa Delgado CX rims, and DT Champion spokes. They work very well and are reasonably priced, your LBS should be able to deliver them for just under $300/set with skewers. Tires are Kenda Klaws 29x1.95, I don't think much more would fit between the chain stays.

Raceface Deus stem and Raceface carbon fiber handlebars.

Dura Ace rear derailleur, 12/27 cluster, XTR cranks and XTR front derailleur, XT shifters, Shimano 959 pedals. SDG Bel Air saddle, Thompson seatpost.

"Early Adopter" 80mm Marzocchi forks, about all that was available for a 29er in 2002. They still work reasonably well and have a manual lock-out.

Set up as a dual sport, I have pounded this bike on three multi-week tours through Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Chiapas.

I've done several rides on it since its reincarnation, and it works great. My last ride was a 13 hour loop with some good climbs.

I'm freezing in Connecticut right now, but in a couple of weeks I'll be heading back to Honduras where I will be riding all winter in sunny 70+ degree weather. Can't wait!

Oh my god. I'm extremely jealous of your trips. I'd have a hard time choosing between the buff donkey trails and the urban stuff, but I'd don't know about long distance touring on my STP.

Nice looking bike. with temps in the single digits - spending the winter in Honduras sounds like a damned good gig.

Happy New Year to you from a fellow CTer!

Sorry about the photo quality. The original photos were very sharp, but the files were too large and Ridemonkey would not accept them. So I used Photobucket to resize them to 320x240, but they lost a lot of quality. So I am reposting them at 640x480, which is the highest quality I can resize to in Photobucket, that Ridemonkey will accept.

Please check them out, the size and detail should be quite a bit better.
