I've got a pair of first-gen Dura-Ace (7401) pedals that I'd like to use with my Bont A3 shoes, but I'm having serious trouble with the cleats. I picked up a new pair of yellow (no float?) cleats, but there's incredible amounts of vertical play on the pedal upstroke, enough to almost feel like you're coming out of the pedal. I tried them out on a pair of even older 105 pedals and it was the same story.

Did cleats from back in the day (they stopped making these in 02 I think) have a different thickness, or are the Bonts not playing nice with Shimano/Look?

Definitely considering just biting the Speedplay or Time bullet right now...

Up sh*t creek, without a paddle
yellow's are floaty.
Red's are no floaty.

my new yellow cleats and '07 ultegra pedals produce horizontal float but no vertical play whatsoever...

can't speak for 02 compatibility though...might be the high zoot shooz...;)

I believe you need the Look cleats. Shimano licenced the tech from Look for this pedal before they did their own.
