Blah blah blah phelps can't outswim a dolphin, but he can outswim shamu! These are from CNN articles. Isn't there any REAL news happening?

The Olympics bore me. I used to swim competitively, and even back then I found watching swimming boring.

I just can't wrap my head around how into some people get.

The guy that dislocated his elbow was kinda cool.

That is all.

Is this the thread where one appears cool because they hate something that is currently popular? These threads usually pop up around Super Bowl time.

No this is the thread where I'm questioning whether or not I'm the only one who is more or less completely apathetic about something that seems to have the rest of our society captivated.

Don't watch TV. Problem solved. I actually didn't know the Olympics were going on until I saw the thread about that chick.

If you were truly apathetic, you would not be "sick of it" nor would you have started a thread.

Watching swimming IS boring as hell. That is why we only do it every 4 years. The same goes with most other Olympic sports.
That said, surely I can watch the Summer Olympics for 2 weeks every 4 years.
These awesome human beings dedicate their whole life for these things.
Pure heart and soul and awesomeness.
I believe I can skip that Seifeld rerun I have seen 50 times already, and Grey and her anantomy can kiss my ass as well.
Bring on the games!

I think those high tech suits have ruined it. To keep it grassroots, everyone should swim naked.

I agree.

I couldn't have picked a better time to be layed up after ACL surgery. The Olympics are way better than any daytime TV show.

Wouldn't mind seeing the under water footage for the women's events :brows:

Womens gymnastics would be banned from TV (child pornography).

At the very least, sports bras should be banned and everyone should swim in white tank tops and speedo's.

Down side would be the men's events. Not really interested in seeing other guys' junk flop around.

I doubt I will miss anymore coverage. I use the DVR and watch it with a delay so I can skip the commercials.

I'm also tired of Olympics threads on RM. Almost as sick as I am about threads speculating on who Sam Hill is going to race for, and where the DW link is going.
Starting a thread about a subject you're sick of is a great way to get the monkey populus to shut up about the subject. In fact, it's foolproof, as history has shown.

Perhaps we could have an international monkey summit and have you and stinky tell us exactly what we should do as a community here. We seem to be failing on our own. Please guide us, o' wise one.

We'd need L'Opie in on this one too.

I'd wanna bring back Gladiator sports... sword fighting, chariot races, grizzly bear wrestling. Real sports with real consequences. None of this sissy rolling on the floor, jumping around, diving into water sh*t. If you're diving into the water in MY olympics, you'd be doing so to get away from a charging elephant. But then you'd have to fight sharks.

Quoted for truth. Must spread rep.

The "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" is never so compelling to me as it is during the Olympics. I can't really relate to the dedication and tunnel vision focus required to be competitive at the level of these athletes, but during the games it seems to make perfect sense.

New low on the RM intelligence scale...
Oh, I am sorry.
You obviously have stumbled into a thread containing humor.
Please exit your mind numbingly boring ass to the right.
Would not want any "fun" to infect you.

Don't feel bad though.
If you showed up to a sword fight, and you were just standing around with your hands in your pockets, you would be asked to leave there too.

one thing being forgotten... these athletes that "dedicate their wholes lives to the sport"... in many instances "their whole lives" isn't even 2 decades. so roughly 10-15%, hell maybe even 20% of their lives (up until now) was dedicated to pooping their pants. And in a lot of cases, most of the athletes are no longer competitive after the age of 30, so whats the point? I'm much more impressed by a 60 year old with gray hair who has dedicated his/her entire life to curing a disease. Now THAT'S commitment.

I've watched about 10min so far. Which is only due to the fact that's how long it took me to a get a drink at the bar what was showing it.

Phelps spends 5 hours a day swimming. Where else in life would that sort of commitment be applicable?

I have yet to come across a job description where that skill is of interest. What would he do for a living if he lost in the Olympics?

I dunno if serching for nubiles on RM has a job title, but I'd say it's pretty close.

Ummmmm......working? Working a 9-5 for 30-some-odd years must take some sort of commitment, no?

Try working only 5 hrs a day everyday instead of 8 and see what happens.

I used to spend 3 hours a day swimming. Where did that get me? NOWHERE! Just wet and chlorinated. And shriveled junk in a speedo. At least I'm not fat.
