Well, I suppose you get what's coming to you when you're charged with somewhere in the neighborhood of five dozen felonies. The moment he went from looking over a classmate's shoulder to breaking and entering, fraud, bulgary, etc, the consequences of your actions skyrocket. He was smart enough to accomplish, but stupid enough to not read the law.
Well, I agree, but when child molesters and rapists and other violent criminals end up getting 3-7 years in jail, and then pot dealers and high school students changing their grades go away for the majority of their adult lives... it's a little ****ed up.

Mandatory minimums for drug dealers and not molesters is ridiculous. If this kid gets 38 years for this, it will also be ridiculous.

Not saying he shouldn't be punished, but it's not like he was stealing secret files from the CIA. "Changing grades is an act of terrorism!"

What bugs me about the situation is that the principal was quoted saying that the students might still be techinically allowed to graduate. Of course this will have to go to the school board for review, but that was his understanding. Blasphemy. Common sense would suggest that the school should follow college rules regarding cheating: you get caught, you're finished.

His name is Omar Khan?

He's in Orange County? Daddy better have on the order of $10M or so to "donate" to local politicians, or he's going away for a loooong time.

It could be worse though...at least his name doesn't sound Mexican.

In an alleged plot that resembles the script to the 1986 high school comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off, prosecutors claim that he then used teachers’ passwords to hack into computers and change his test scores.
That was Wargames, dumbass.

I don't think he'll get 38 years, but since they held him on bond I don't think they're playing around.

When he gets out I'm sure he'll have a promising career at Mitnick Security Consulting, LLC.

No, it was Ferris Bueller. You've all ruined my joke about his lawyer using the Bueller, Bueller defense.

And the sentencing maxes often quoted in articles make me laugh--we had illegal aliens who "faced up to 20 years in jail" who walked out of federal court with 2 years unsupervised probation and a $25 special assessment fee. Without deportation. But you're right about the bond--someone is looking to get medieval on his ass.

I, for one, will never touch Woo's tang. This is out respect, admiration, and fear of contamination.

Front Range, dude...
Ally Sheedy was hot...way back when. Now I think she works at Wal Mart...
Now Molly Ringwald, thats another story.

And if the kid was smart enough to hack into the school computer and not smart enough to get a passing grade? Sounds like more trouble than it was worth.

Stop intruding on my nostalgia. I had to google image search, too, for the Breakfast Club pic.

That was that homoerotic wrestling flick right? Big dude carrying a log on his back like Sisyphus doing laps, shouldering his cultural burden......the young buck seeking to dethrone him and bring him to the ground.....

What exactly was it about that movie that drew you in mike?

Madonna. I had a thing for jelly-bracelets, and it's historical, being her first movie.

Nothing's more hetro than a fondness for early Madonna, Woo. Nothing.

I'm more of a Courtney Cox in Masters of the Universe kinda guy. Patsy Kensit in Lethal Weapon 2. Elizabeth Shue in Karate Kid. Jami Gertz in The Lost Boys.

That a big enough salvo of imagery for ya?

Nothing wrong with early Madonna so long as no one catches you singing "Lucky Star" in the shower...

The phrase "Psycho Hose-Beast" always makes me think of Nena...
