Our own Nate King, nee Heisenberg, on going from lowly Cat. 5 newb, to his first PRO contract for the 2012 race season.

Competitive Cyclist Racing Team Sets Roster For 2012 : PitchEngine : Get the Word Out™

BAM!

I'd like to say that I was his mentor, that he owes it all to me and my sage advice both on and off the bike, but we all know that's complete BS. He owes it to his huge natural engine, and the mental fortitude to completely and utterly bury himself in training. Not to mention dropping the entire team, save Mancebo, on epic training rides in the Utah mountains.

Way to go Nate, I know I speak for all of us living our PRO fantasies through you when I say "kill it this year!"

Very cool! He'll be racing with Josh Berry, one of our local boys.

Based on his ride reports, I often wondered if that guy was insane....

Serious congrats. Hard work pays off. I wish I had that kind of dedication.

Finally! I've always wondered what his real name was.

--edit--

I've heard some great stories about Grajales...

Yeah. I'm super-duper-uber-stoked and still kind of overwhelmed from the insanity my first year of racing was. Next year is going to be even more insane, and I'm silly-excited to be racing with some of the fastest guys in the North American game. Our roster is going to be stacked across the board!

Of course, couldn't have done it without help from a ton of really rad people (James amongst them) - that "it takes a village" saying applies to bike racers too.

5 hours tomorrow AM - who's in?

Congrats! Should be fun defending the yellow jersey in all the stage races ;)

Edit: James, you looking for someone else to mentor? :D

I'm going to spend the next 9 months training so I can hold your wheel for the first 3 miles of a ride at Press Camp next year. And remember, I'm good at coasting downhill, so watch yourself!

Sure, I'm always looking for the next person to mess up. Luckily Nate is smart, and I'm sure just kind of tunes me out. Also luckily for him, most of my advice is professional, not sporting.
And I already have dibs on the follow car in France for his first go at the big show... :D
