We're kicking off the 2024 Secret Santa! Exchange gifts with other monkeys - from beer and snacks, to bike gear, to custom machined holiday decorations and tools by our more talented members, there's something for everyone.
Cecil Walker and Dean Woods Direct have a lot of the basics. An oddity is Inner City Cycles in Sydney can work for you although their service is patchy and its not true internet shopping.
I haven't dealt with anyones else. Jenson USA is my friend when I really want something.
Isn't surprising when you consider that most importers in Oz struggle to clear merchandise like armour and clothing. They only tend to bring in a few lines(usually easy sell generic clothing) in numbers they know will sell, not the small numbers of high end gear that they'd end up having to sell at a loss. So if it's not imported in big numbers no shops stock in big numbers, thus no capacity for net sales here as shops are then scared of ending up with dead stock.
The bike shop I used to work at had a backlog list of items that had sat on the shelf for longer than 1 year. The list got so long that about 65% of the accessory/clothing stock was on it. And at the time we were rated one of the top shops in Sydney in terms of turnover and profitability.
Worse yet the importers have these exclusivity clauses in their contracts so trying to import yourself and sell gear that the other guys don't isn't possible.
Ironically it is often cheaper to buy overseas and ship than buying at wholesale here.
It cr@ppy, I know, thats why I've married a Canadian, I ship to her folks and they bring it here or I go pick it up.
