The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced last Friday that Chris Del Bosco of Vail, Colorado, tested positive at the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships on September 26 at Mammoth Mountain, California.

Del Bosco (Oakley-LenzSport-FoxRacing Shox), a semi-professional downhill ski racer who finished 18th in the NORBA downhill overall in 2003, tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a prohibited substance under World Anti-Doping Agency's prohibited list.

Del Bosco, 22, received a public warning for a first offense. In addition, he is disqualified from his first place finish at the event. Del Bosco, who won the pro men's downhill event at the inaugural USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships in September, forfeits his national title.

In Mammoth, Del Bosco qualified second in mountain cross but was eliminated in the first round. Then, during his downhill run, everything clicked and he finished 3.1 seconds ahead of Duncan Riffle (Spy-Fox Shox), who has subsequently been awarded the national title.

This is the second time in the last several years that an American downhiller has forfeited a big DH win because of a positive for THC, the main intoxicant found in marijuana. Gary Houseman scored an historic World Cup downhill win at Grouse Mountain, British Columbia in 2003 only to have his win stripped later in the year.

No, no, no, you naughty downhiller! You mustn't smoke the sweet leaf- it's a very bad plant!

My guess is that Chris's toke in the face of misdemeaner charges was probably less due to ignorance and more due to a conscious act of civil disobedience. Too bad other unjust(and otherwise unknown) misdemeaner charges are not used to deprive a person of their livelihood.

But...but...he smoked pot sometime within a month of competing! He could have actually been STONED at some point!

Maybe if he'd just leaf it alone, these problems wouldn't keep budding up. It's a sticky situation for sure, but eventually the smoke will blow over.

I just hope this thread doesn't spark the same debate.

Hahaha I am a genius. Wait, no, I am not.

Go-Ride legal disclamer:
Despite james' silly remarks we do not condone drug use in any way.
Alcohol however is legal so it's perfectly safe to say that James is a drunk and is the last one to show up on sunday morning rides.

Uh, just how did you get the name "Krispy" anyway?

I used to hang with a dude that smoked like a chimney, he was so burnt all the time we called him...Crispy. No joke.

I'm sure it's completely unrelated in your case. :D

If you're smiling & having too much fun or otherwise affecting the productivity of proper social climbing wage-slaves, the fun police must be called.

"We can't have our good little ants focused on anything other than the expanding tasks we lay before them. Those pot-toking grasshoppers need to realize that living in the day detracts from their ability to service our machine and they are proving to be a disruptive distraction amongst our work force!"

"Counting tubes" hahahaha, I used to work at a shop where our code for "supplies" was "high pressure tubes" which, as far as we knew, don't really exist.

As in, "Dude, you got any high pressure tubes today? I'm going riding later and could really use some."

Ahhh, memories.

Ben is not one of the brightest individuals, he promotes a double standard for living and makes mistakes just like the rest of us.

Yeah, there are older threads about this from when Houseman got busted but generally I agree, it might be a dumb rule but it's still a rule that must be followed if you want to play in the big leagues. If you don't like it, try to change the rule. It might seem like an individual's right to take the chance but sadly, getting caught hurts more than the offender - sponsors generally do not want to be associated with drug offenses, so every time someone gets caught, the negative publicity negatively effects the amount of dollars being put into the sport.

Like it or not, weed is an illegal substance and is banned for use by atheletes.

Just don't smoke it.

Geez.
Wow, what a surprise you had something to say about this

The very definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and again while expecting a different result.

So when people continue to smoke the stuff and get busted, and when people toss out the same lame-a$$ tired (pot isn't as bad as blah blah blah) spray and expect the result to change..........

Hmm, I'm not sure if I get this concept. Would this be like stating an opinion over and over again expecting to sway the mind set of others? :p

Not expecting to change the mind of the commited pot-head.
But constantly amazed that they continue to whine and complain about the situation.
