I have one of these. It fits my head better than anything else I’ve tried and it performed well in Virginia Tech’s test.
Will you let us know which helmet you wore when you got your nickname? Because I want to avoid it....;)

In Australia, manufacturers have to send in multiple helmets for testing - and pay for the privilege - to be certified for here. Apparently that affected our prices heaps for ages, but now I believe the race organisers and the police will accept helmets with the US Snell rating or whatever it is.
Which probably adds no more than a few cents per helmet. I assume your country still has cheap supermarket/dept store bike helmets available like most countries? (which surely also have certification)

I think there's an economy of sale with the supermarket ones. Like one model getting approved divided by the thousands they sell probably isn't too bad. Bit rougher for the small numbers per model for the others though.

I agree helmet pricing is mostly a scam, but I remember importers telling us they'd limit model availability here because it gets crazy paying for them to be approved.

On this side of the Mississippi, we don't value much research from the Vagina area. Err...Virginia. :D [auto complete thang]

We got Cal Poly Tech, Elon and Bill Gates and shit to tell us what to do. :D

I take it you're not convinced MIPS works, eh?
Depends what you mean by "Works" ?
I've no doubt an extra layer of short plastic drinks straws between your head and the polystyrene shell "works" as well as any rational adult might expect it to....

a full head of thick hair between my skull and the polystyrene shell no doubt gives my non MIPS helmets some extra cushion and added rotational movement in an impact too. Certainly more so than if I had a bald head anyway.

Don't know if you've gathered but I just don't really like helmets at all. I find them all pretty uncomfortable and annoying compared to not wearing one at all.. So simply have very little desire to increase the annoyance level by introducing extra wobble

I need to make a video of me shaking both my MIPS helmets, only to show how much the whole helmet moves against my hair versus how little the MIPS liner moves against the helmet's shell.

When I smoked my MIPS helmet into the ground last year, the whole head cradle thing permanently slipped and separated from the shell. I think it take an actual smash for it to do its thing but pretty happy to walk away from that one.

I've had them squeak and carry on in some helmets though which is fucking annoying.

Helmet fitment is a personal thing.

I tried on a FF enduro helmet in XL that fit me great. But I wanted a DH helmet.

On the other side of the rack were the same companies DH helmets. I grabbed the XL and couldn't get it down to my ears.

How the fuck can the same company use such different molds? I appreciate it that Bell fits WAY different than Giro and so on. But there's no reason that the same company and same "size" helmet aren't even in the realm of similar.

Maybe DH certified helmets have moar polystyrene than endubro ones? So while the shell might be the same size, the inner space is smaller?

I ran into an issue where an older version of a Smith helmet fit me fine, the newer version with MIPS was way too tight - I think they'd just used the same shell and tried to squeeze more into it...
