I have acquired some .mkv file videos and am having trouble opening them. I cannot get DIVX to work, and when I use the simple MKV player from the http://matroska.org/ it just freezes and dies. Any ideas?

MKV is just a container format. The actual encoding could be MPEG, or DIVX, or whatever.

Just use VLC, it'll play everything and you don't have to worry about how its encoded.
