Its that time again, gotta get a new ride. I'm considering this bike for downhill, freeride and possibly urban. Any opinions.

I have the Comp w/a Super up front and am awaiting the 8" link. Rides EXCELLENT. Naysayers claim the 24" wheel slows you down over rocks but I can't tell. Stiff as hell - parts will give long before the frame doesn. Manuals and jumps like a cruiser. Pedals relatively well. Easier to throw around in the air than comparable weight bikes I've ridden. Clearance for a 3.0 in the back for ****ing around with.

BTW - Specialized is sold out of complete DH models this year...only BH comps left. You can still buy the DH frame alone, though.

Jeff,

I'm running a 24x3.0 on the back of my comp, and while it fits, I can't get the chain to clear the tire without totally jacking up the chainline. (In the granny/big cog) Have you had better luck with this?

No probs on mine, although almost never use the granny. I can't see how tire/wheel size would affect chainline...what's yours doing?

It's not that the tire affects my chainline directly...

The chain, in smaller gears, rubs against the fat tire. It's so wide it protrudes into the path of the chain.

In order to have the chain clear the tire, the chainline needs to be waaaay far out, and it affects shifting.

I'm just gonna find some smaller tires. That 3.0 isn't really optimal for me anyhow.

I had the same problem - with Kujo 3.0/Rhyno Lite, my chain would rub the tire in the two lowest gears. However, I found that it wasn't as bad when actually pedalling as compared to just spinning the tire by hand. While it did always rub, I don't think it actually slowed me down significantly.

I have one and done mybe 4 rides on it. Its a great pedaller and fun to wheelie and manual due to the short stays. It does have issues with flowing really gnarly terrain, but not bad. I'm selling mine on the marketplace, mainly because I got stuck with a large and need a medium cause Specialized can't forcast sales (or even their own production).

I love mine. This is my one and only rig now used for freeride and dh. I upgraded travel via Dorado up front and dh linkage. Currently running Maxxis tires (2.7) and the bike is very predicatable. It is also a durable frame with clean welds and good cable routing. Consider it a poor man's Uzzi DH. It hits the scales at 43lbs. Lighter than any of my past dh rigs.
